Overview

The Animal Emergency Clinic of the Fraser Valley is seeking a Medical Director to lead and grow our 24/7 emergency hospital serving British Columbia. The Medical Director will oversee medical operations, foster team development, ensure hospital compliance with regulations, and maintain a positive work environment. The role is 75% clinical and 25% administrative, with several years of clinical experience and strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills required.

Job Description
  • Medical Quality — Oversee medical operations to ensure high-quality medical care, support innovation and cutting-edge practices, develop and maintain medical policies, investigate patient safety concerns, support quality improvement initiatives, implement hospital policies prioritizing patient- and client-centric approaches, and maintain relationships with RDVMs.
  • Team Development — Collaborate with the Hospital Director and clinical service leads to promote a team-oriented approach to patient care; participate in recruiting and retaining veterinarians; conduct annual performance evaluations and quarterly check-ins with DVMs; oversee extern/intern education and evaluations, supporting ongoing educational opportunities.
  • Community and Communications — Develop and maintain a respectful and positive hospital environment for all employees; foster positive relationships with referring veterinarians; provide regular communication to hospital staff and facilitate regular meetings; attend and actively participate in MDAC meetings.
  • Hospital Operations and Compliance — Partner with the Hospital Director in budget and capital expenditure planning; identify growth opportunities for existing services and new services; provide medical input into development and marketing materials; participate in equipment and medication/product selection; ensure timely and accurate medical records; maintain licensure and insurance for veterinarians; ensure compliance with provincial and federal regulations, including CE requirements and controlled drug management; attend leadership training and relationship-building opportunities with the Hospital Director.
Qualifications
