All products are designed and manufactured in house by our growing team of over 100 employees. Job Summary

As Mechanical Engineer II you will work with the Engineering team on the mechanical design and drafting, as well as performing analysis of power electronic and communications systems. You will be involved with the design, fabrication and modification of mechanical and/or electro‑mechanical components, sub‑systems and systems. This may include Mechanical, Thermal and Fluid analysis, Mechanical packaging or others. This position is an on‑site role, working in our Bedford, NS office. This is a temporary 12‑month contract position.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and recommend design approaches to meet production requirements for new or improved products or services. Investigate solutions to product or process problems.
  • Design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of products, systems or subsystems. Knowledge of military standards, including but not limited to MIL‑STD‑810, MIL‑S‑901, MIL‑STD‑167‑1A, MIL‑STD‑1472 considered an asset.
  • May use computer‑aided engineering or other design/analysis software in the performance of assignments.
  • Review customer specifications and requirements, and under direction, develop designs to best support them.
  • Provide input on budget, cost and schedule input for designs.
  • Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems and services.
  • Responsible for completing technical activity and completion of activity on time and budget.
  • Drive the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements.
  • Develop prototypes to evaluate designs.
  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and customers as required.
  • Attend appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings.
  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field.
  • 5+ years professional experience in mechanical related projects.
  • P. Eng. designation, and eligible for registration with Engineers NS.
  • Experience with Creo or similar 3D CAD program; experience using AutoCAD would be beneficial.
  • Computer literate with knowledge of MS‑Office word‑processing and spreadsheet programs.
  • Fluency in technologies and application domain.
  • Ability to lead a technical group independently.
  • Ability to produce quality technical work.
  • Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Works effectively as a member of a team or as the leader of a team.
  • Familiarity with the application of military and commercial standards to electrical designs is required.
  • Experience reading schematics and engineering specs, with a strong ability to troubleshoot.
  • Demonstrated understanding and strong interests in power electronics and power converters design.
  • Demonstrated application of electronic theory, principles of electrical circuits, testing procedures and related knowledge to construct and debug power electronics circuitry in relation to the design of power conversion equipment.
  • Strong ability to analyze, record, and interpret test data to determine product acceptability.
