This role is critical to ensuring the operational efficiency and safety of our fleet, minimizing downtime, and contributing to the smooth execution of our projects. This position is largely unsupervised.

As a Master Mechanic, you will be responsible for:

  • Diagnosing and Repairing Complex Issues: Performing advanced troubleshooting and repair on hydraulic systems, electrical systems, diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, and various components across our fleet of heavy equipment (e.g., excavators, loaders, dozers), dump trucks, concrete mixers, and quarry-specific machinery (e.g., crushers, screeners, conveyors).
  • Preventative Maintenance: Implementing and overseeing rigorous preventative maintenance programs to extend equipment lifespan.
  • Welding and Fabrication: Performing welding, cutting, and fabrication as needed for repairs, modifications, and structural integrity of equipment.
  • Documentation: Maintaining accurate and detailed records of all maintenance, repairs, parts used, and service history for each piece of equipment.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhering strictly to all company safety policies, industry regulations, and environmental standards. Identifying and reporting potential hazards.
  • Parts Management: Assisting with inventory management of parts and supplies, making recommendations for stock levels and ordering.
  • Field Service: Responding to and resolving equipment breakdowns in the field, often in challenging quarry environments.

Qualifications

  • Journeyperson Certificate: Valid designation as an Automotive Service Technician, Heavy Equipment Technician, or Truck and Coach Technician.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, specifically with exposure to large commercial trucks and quarry operations.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proven expertise in diesel engine diagnostics, hydraulic schematics, electrical systems (12V/24V), and air brake systems.
  • Equipment Knowledge: In-depth understanding of various heavy equipment manufacturers and large truck brands. Experience with aggregate processing equipment is a significant asset.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting heavy objects, working in various weather conditions, and standing for extended periods.
  • Safety Mindset: A strong commitment to workplace safety.
  • Licensing: Valid Class G driver’s license (or equivalent) with a clean driving record. Class A or D is a strong asset.
