Calian has an exciting opportunity for a Marketing Manager to join our Europe Defence corporate team

Position Overview

The Marketing Manager position focuses on brand awareness and account‑based marketing (ABM) within NATO, and European countries. This role will lead demand generation, and nurture campaigns for our defence‑related solutions, focused on a broad based of capabilities for military training and simulation solutions as well as additional capabilities as opportunities arise.

The Marketing Manager role will develop and execute multi‑channel marketing campaigns as well as ABM strategies, pipeline growth, and a deep understanding of European defence markets, government procurement processes, and NATO partnerships. This role requires close collaboration with internal teams, industry associations, and defence stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Develop & Execute ABM Campaigns: Lead the strategy, execution, and optimization of marketing campaigns across various channels to drive demand, lead generation, and customer engagement.
  • Market & Customer Insights: Conduct market research to understand industry trends, procurement cycles, and competitive positioning within the European defence sector.
  • Sales Alignment: Work closely with the sales team to develop targeted go‑to‑market strategies, messaging, and lead‑nurturing programs tailored to government and defence customers.
  • Analytics & Reporting: Track, analyze, and report on marketing performance, leveraging data‑driven insights to optimize future campaigns.
  • Develop and implement demand generation, lead generation, and nurture campaigns to drive engagement and conversions in European defence markets.
  • Create marketing strategies that align with business unit goals and revenue objectives within the defence sector.
  • Conduct in‑depth market and competitive research to identify trends, opportunities, and positioning strategies within NATO and European defence organizations.
  • Work closely with sales, product development, and engineering teams to develop marketing content and collateral tailored to military, government, and industry decision‑makers.
  • Own the execution of multi‑channel marketing campaigns, including digital, content marketing, social media, trade shows and traditional media.
  • Manage marketing automation platforms (e.g., HubSpot) and CRM to track lead performance and optimize campaigns.
  • Develop thought leadership initiatives, including whitepapers, case studies, webinars, and speaking engagements in the defence sector.
  • Collaborate with European defence industry associations, media, and strategic partners to increase brand visibility and market engagement.
  • Manage the marketing budget, ensuring maximum ROI on campaigns and initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate legal, finance, privacy, ESG, HR, and IT policies in all marketing activities.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams (Sales, Product, Engineering, Leadership) to align marketing efforts with business goals.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple campaigns simultaneously.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into compelling marketing content.
  • Data‑driven mindset with the ability to analyze performance metrics and optimize marketing efforts.
  • A clear sense of urgency to achieve results. A “can‑do”, “let’s make it happen” attitude and a focus on a positive customer experience.
  • Ability to understand how the business works and how the business works together.
  • Ability to easily make the needed connections between systems, processes, and individuals to facilitate change.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a global and matrixed environment, build effective working relationships across Calian at Divisional, Group, and Corporate levels, and gain commitment and coordinated action for initiative.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Defence Studies, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7‑10 years of experience in a marketing role, with at least 3+ years focused on defence industry marketing.
  • Experience working with European defence agencies, NATO, and government procurement organizations.
  • Familiarity with ABM strategies, public relations, and content marketing within a technical or military sector.
  • Willingness to travel to industry events, conferences, and customer sites across Europe.
  • Proven experience in B2B marketing, demand generation, and lead nurturing within the defence sector or adjacent industries (aerospace, security, military training, communications, or related fields).
  • Strong understanding of European defence market trends, government procurement cycles, and NATO‑related business opportunities.
  • Expertise in campaign management, digital marketing, content strategy, and analytics for defence industry marketing.
  • Experience with marketing automation, CRM (HubSpot preferred), and lead tracking.
  • Experience in trade show planning, sponsorships, and partnerships within the European defence industry.
  • Ability to mentor junior marketers and work collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
