A global technology company in Metro Vancouver is seeking an experienced Software Development Manager. The role involves leading a talented engineering team, managing cross-functional projects, and fostering a positive team culture. Candidates should have extensive experience in engineering management and a strong background in multi-tier web services. This position offers a competitive salary and the opportunity to work in an inclusive environment.
Do you have a passion for owning large, cross-organizational products that impact real-world decisions? Are you looking for an opportunity to join a team that has a global and cross-Amazon scope? If yes, we are looking for somebody with your enthusiasm and skills to join our team. We are a central analytics team that owns Amazon’s measurement of marketing incrementality for on-Amazon and off-Amazon investments, including data collection, analytics, and machine learning approaches. We aspire to be the place where Amazon teams come for answers about the impact and efficacy of their marketing strategies and campaigns, and the trusted source for data and insights that systems and business leaders leverage to make better decisions. By shaping these decisions, we shape how customers interact with Amazon and value that experience.
As a Software Development Manager, you will lead a large team of highly talented engineers, and own cross-functional projects. You will be at the forefront of enabling MLOps and build highly intuitive UX that connect business with science and data.
Successful candidates will be enthusiastic about using data to make decisions, have impeccable written and verbal communication skills, and be able to solve complex problems involving concepts such as causal inference. Such candidates will be passionate about delivering extensible, on-time solutions that navigate multiple points of view to address stakeholder needs. They will become a key part of a high-performing team’s continual growth and evolution.
A Software Development Manager in our team leads the group from the front. They will be responsible for mentoring, growing and supporting the team in their short-term and long-term goals. They will be responsible for managing the operational health, goal delivery and team health. They will represent their team in forums, build their 1-year and 3-year vision. Most importantly, they need to focus on team's culture; and ensure that they and their team are enjoying their work.
A day in a life of SDM in our team includes (but is not limited to) working on vision, architecture designs, brainstorming with other engineers and leaders, risk mitigation, mentoring/supporting their team, planning their day-week-month. We have weekly demos, happy hours; bi-weekly retros, priority alignment; and monthly goal tracking; and quarterly team events.
We started a new team in 2020 with a small number of 6 people, to build user experience for a highly technical concept. Over the last 4 years, our team grew to 30+ people (Engineers, Scientists, Product Manager, Data Engineer, Economists, Business Intelligence Engineers, and Interns) and we're just getting started.
