What is the opportunity?

The primary role of the incumbent is to execute control assurance activities, which evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of controls in line with RBC Risk Management Framework. In addition, if needed, the manager will be responsible to lead and manage a team of Senior Analysts/Analysts to execute control testing. The manager is required to be a domain subject matter expert in risk management practices and control evaluation programs.

The incumbent is expected to be a key liaison, working closely in partnership between business units, 2nd line of defense, and Enterprise Control Testing in managing stakeholder engagement and concluding on the overall effectiveness of controls.

What will you do?

  • Leading and executing design effectiveness and operating effectiveness assessments, and concluding on the overall effectiveness for assigned Key Controls
  • Documenting control assessment results and conclusions on time using clear and concise language to effectively articulate results/conclusions of control testing.
  • When needed, lead/coach a team of Senior Analysts/Analysts in managing and completing the testing of controls for the assigned Testing Program.
  • Uses approaches including reviewing process documentation, performing process walkthroughs, sample-based testing, and/or performing data analysis to obtain a sufficient understanding of how the control activity is intended to be performed and drive meaningful conclusions about the effectiveness of the key controls.
  • Negotiate findings and issues to be raised with control owners and their leadership, including issuing closing memos with observations and findings, as well as feedback and opportunities for improvements on design and operating effectiveness where appropriate.
  • Contribute to ad-hoc assignments/special projects to enhance maturity of the testing program and participate in regular discussions with Management on strategies, work plans, and other matters.

What will you need to succeed?

Must have

  • 5+ years’ Experience in Operational Risk Management, Compliance and/or Audit.
  • Experience in Control Testing and Capital Planning (1LOD or 2LOD).
  • Post-secondary degree in related field
  • Strong knowledge of risk and control identification, control design, and effectiveness assessment
  • Proactive in identifying risks and proposing solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present and influence decisions
  • Highly motivated, self-starter, problem solver, solution oriented.

Nice to have

  • Professional qualification in accounting, certifications associated with Risk Management or Compliance.
  • Experience in finance and/or insurance operations.
  • Experience in Anti-Money Laundering / Anti-Terrorist Financing regulations and standards.
