Overview

Reporting to the President, Ottawa REDBLACKS and Ottawa 67’s, the Manager, Communications is responsible for leading and executing on the overall communications strategy. This role oversees all internal and external messaging, ensuring alignment with the team’s brand, values, and business objectives. This role will manage media relations and crisis communication to enhance the organization’s visibility and reputation.

What you’ll do
  • Implement a comprehensive communications strategy that supports the team’s business objectives and community engagement goals.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with media outlets, fostering strong relationships with these external stakeholders.
  • Plan and coordinate press conferences, interviews, and media availability for players, coaches, and executives.
  • Draft, edit, and distribute press releases, media advisories, official statements, and other key communications.
  • Prepare, translate, and adapt communications (memos, messages, and presentations) for both internal and external audiences.
  • Develop and review compelling media materials that elevate the organization’s profile and strengthen team visibility.
  • Monitor organizational messaging to ensure alignment with league standards, policies, and communications protocol.
  • Partner with marketing team to create engaging, consistent, and brand-aligned content.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the manager.
What’s needed
  • Completion of a post secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • 5-8 years of progressive experience in communications, ideally within a sports-focused organization.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with strong research, editing, and proofreading abilities.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain positive and collaborative relationships at all levels of the organization, as well as with media and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage key deliverables in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge and passion for sports, particularly football and hockey, considered a strong asset.
  • Bilingualism in French and English, with advanced proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking is a requirement for this role.
