Overview

Your Opportunity: Under limited supervision, this position performs a variety of skilled mechanical maintenance and repair duties on various types of equipment, buildings and grounds in consultation with the Facility maintenance site lead and in accordance with accepted standards, regulations and procedures. The incumbent is responsible for completing preventative and demand work orders within the e-Facilities system.

Description

As a Maintenance Worker III, you may perform a variety of skilled maintenance and repair work on patient and hospital equipment and complex mechanical systems to ensure safety and efficient operation of the building systems and equipment. You may utilize your maintenance skills and experience in the performance of preventative and demand maintenance within the exterior and interior of the building. Your duties may include troubleshooting and repairing electronic components on patient and hospital equipment; monitoring, troubleshooting and performing repairs on boilers, HVAC, medical air and vacuum systems and pure water systems. In addition, you may be required to coordinate and assign work to other Maintenance Worker staff in order to meet operational requirements.

Qualifications
  • Required Qualifications: Completion of post-secondary education in a related field and/or 1 year specialized/technical training in a related field OR 5th Class Power Engineer Certificate as per ABSA kW rating guidelines or AHS standards where boiler support is necessary. Possession of a valid driver's licence.
  • Additional Required Qualifications: Must have a valid 5th class ABSA Power Engineering Certificate. Grade 12 or equivalent is required. Must be familiar with established rules, regulations, and procedures. Report any unsafe conditions which may cause injury or damage to equipment to supervisor. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Mechanical aptitude and one year of experience in plant operations and maintenance is required. Be able to repair mechanical equipment i.e. Pumps, fans, belt drives, HVAC equipment, kitchen equipment, and any related equipment within the hospital. Must be skilled in the use of hand and power tools. Must be able to make informed, timely decisions.
  • Preferred Qualifications: A 4th class Power Engineering certificate is preferred. One year of experience in building automation systems. One year of Health Care facility experience is desired. Knowledge of building maintenance and repair. Knowledge of Infection, Prevention & Control Measures/Hoarding. Able to operate grounds equipment. Knowledge of Infectious control measures within a hospital is desired.
