Harvard-Westlake School is seeking an experienced and versatile Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities team. This is a hands‑on, service‑oriented role that supports the daily operations, safety, and appearance of our campuses. The successful candidate will be a team player with strong practical skills, a high degree of flexibility, and availability for significant paid overtime, including evenings and weekends.

Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician supports the plant operations function of the school through preventative maintenance, repairs, event support, and general facilities work. While strong technical and mechanical skills are essential, equally important is a willingness to assist wherever needed to ensure that school facilities and grounds are clean, safe, functional, and event‑ready.

This role requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment and to respond promptly to routine requests as well as urgent situations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative maintenance of buildings, systems, and grounds
  • Complete maintenance requests submitted electronically or by phone, including but not limited to:
    • Changing light bulbs and fixtures
    • Minor plumbing and electrical repairs
    • Hanging bulletin boards, pictures, and signage
    • Using ladders and basic power tools
    • Responding to emergency calls
  • Maintain cleanliness of assigned areas using tools such as leaf blowers, brooms, and dustpans; collect and remove trash
  • Assist with campus logistics, including:
    • Delivering boxes and materials (often heavy) throughout campus
    • Supporting parking and visitor flow during school functions
    • Cleaning and sanitizing areas as needed, including after student illness
  • Set up, staff, and break down school events, which may include:
    • Moving and assembling heavy stage platforms
    • Setting up and storing folding chairs, pipe and drape, sandbags, and tables
    • Pressure washing campus areas in preparation for events
  • Remain on feet for most of the workday; climb stairs; and frequently lift up to 50 pounds
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Skilled or semi‑skilled experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • General building and grounds maintenance
    • Light electrical and plumbing
    • Drywall repair, painting, carpentry, and tiling
    • HVAC and refrigeration knowledge (preferred)
    • Welding experience (a plus, but not required)
  • Strong hand skills and mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work effectively
  • Reliability, flexibility, and a strong work ethic
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team while also functioning independently

Schedule and Overtime

Regular Schedule: Monday through Friday, typically 6:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. or 6:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (with slight variations)

Overtime: Significant paid overtime is required beyond the regular workday, including evenings and weekends. Candidates must be available for overtime that may total 40–50 hours per month.

Compensation

This is a non‑exempt position. Estimated base hourly rate: $23.00 – $26.00 per hour, depending on experience.
