Legal Counsel (Contract)

Legal and compliance counsel to healthcare businesses and medical departments in Canada, supporting the Canadian business to successfully deliver Bayer products and services to Canadian patients through key stakeholders.

Bayer is committed to a flexible hybrid working environment. This is a 12-month Contract position based out of Mississauga, ON.

Responsibilities
  • Delivers excellent legal support and strategic direction to Bayer Canada in collaboration with colleagues on the Law Patents & Compliance Canada team.
  • Provides legal advice and direction on commercial, compliance and privacy matters for healthcare businesses and enabling functions to achieve our mission of Health for All, Hunger for None.
  • Provides legal and compliance advice to our commercial and functional teams across Canada on marketing, advertising, corporate commercial, regulatory, litigation and privacy matters working with internal and external partners to advance impactful projects that enhance the lives of patients and farmers, putting customers, healthcare professionals and other stakeholders first.
  • Working with Bayer Canada colleagues to take responsibility for local level impacts and coordinating with regional and global colleagues on matters that extend beyond Canada.
  • Advises on legal, privacy and compliance risk and legal strategy to country division heads and functional and business colleagues as a key partner in our shared ownership model.
  • Working with the business in 90 day cycles to deliver prioritized outcomes, engages with contract parties and manages external counsel to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and with flexibility, placing our customers and other stakeholders first.
  • Coordinates across jurisdictions with other Bayer LPC colleagues including in commercial, privacy and litigation matters.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Laws and Canadian Bar Admission in good standing.
  • Minimum 5 years of legal experience in a fast-paced environment in house or at a major law firm.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication and presentation skills, a strategic thinker with leadership qualities, ability to influence without formal authority.
  • Healthcare industry or transferable industry knowledge/ experience
