Job description

We are currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Labourer to join our Distribution group supporting residential shallow utilities work in Edmonton, AB.

Reporting to the Foreman / Lead Hand, this position will support the safe and efficient installation of shallow-utilities (power, gas and telecommunications) in new residential subdivisions, in and around the Greater Edmonton area.

Please note: this is a site-based position and the successful candidate must have their own vehicle to get to site and possess a valid drivers licence.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install cable in trenches up to 1.5m deep
  • Set telecom pedestals, install conduit, sand cable, move material
  • Safely lift up to 50lbs
  • Operate jumping-jacks, plate tampers, and other handheld or portable equipment
  • Perform physical duties while always working safely
  • Learn to read and understand construction drawings for specific tasks given
  • Effectively communicate and carry out tasks as provided, correctly and efficiently
  • Possibly operate skid-steer and other construction equipment on-site
  • Complete time sheets, vehicle pre-trip vehicle inspections and other paperwork as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Previous construction experience (electrical utility or civil work experience preferred)
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean record
  • Ability to perform physically demanding duties and safely lift a minimum of 50 lbs
  • Demonstrated experience with the safe operation of hand and power tools
  • Solid understanding of workplace safety practices and procedures
