Fife House is an innovative, client-focused provider of secure and supportive affordable housing and services to people living with HIV / AIDS in the Greater Toronto Area. With approximately 110 staff working across 6 locations, in 2020-2021, Fife House served more than 850 residents and clients by providing supportive and transitional housing programs and outreach programs to homeless clients and their families.

A BOUT THE ROLE :

Job Type : Part-time, 1 year contract; (Could lead to full-time & hybrid depending on performance)

Expected hours : 30 per week

Schedule :

  • 8 hour shift
  • Day shift

The Labour Relations Specialist will manage and administer labour relations policies and procedures. This role involves negotiating collective bargaining agreements, resolving labour disputes, and ensuring compliance with labour laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a thorough understanding of labour laws, and experience handling union-related matters.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Assist the Senior Manager in negotiations with unions to develop and revise collective bargaining agreements.
  • Serve as a point of contact for employee and / or management concerns, grievances, and disputes, facilitating communication between staff and management. Conduct investigations into employee complaints and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant labour laws and regulations.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of labour relations strategies that align with Fife House goals, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct training sessions for management and employees on topics related to labour relations. Assist in the development and delivery of training programs related to labour relations and conflict resolution directed to both management and staff.
  • Maintain accurate records of labour relations activities and agreements, prepare reports and presentations on labour relations matters to management.
  • Provide advice and support to management on labour relations issues.
  • Work with managers to investigate and resolve employee complaints and grievances. Create and enforce safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment. Perform risk assessments: identify potential hazards and implement measures to mitigate risks. Analyze workplace accidents and incidents to prevent future occurrences.
  • Collaborate with managers to ensure compliance with WSIB regulations and manage related claims.
  • Develop and implement return-to-work programs for employees recovering from injuries or illnesses.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Education : Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
  • Experience : Minimum of 3 years of experience in labour relations or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Master's degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
  • Experience working with unions and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Certification in Labour Relations or Human Resources.
  • Joint Occupational Health & Safety Certificate

Working Conditions :

  • Office environment with occasional travel to various work sites.
  • May require extended hours during negotiations or dispute resolutions.
