We're looking for our next Lab Technician to join our Quality Department. The Lab Technician will analyze pea samples (raw, in-process and finished products) using Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Use chemistry principles, analytical technology and practices to deliver improvement within quality control and plant production laboratories. Provide consistent chemistry-based solutions and process control data.

Responsibilities
  • Perform metrological monitoring of laboratory equipment / instruments.
  • Execute the laboratory methods as established by the quality control unit.
  • Advise on areas for improvement to maximize product testing and release of results.
  • Assist in preparation of test reports (e.g. weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc.).
  • Use developed methods to provide high-quality, timely and cost-effective services.
  • Monitor the quality control and sensory laboratories in orderly and workable conditions.
  • Regularly clean working areas in the main quality control laboratory.
  • Confirm laboratory equipment are maintained and function properly, and that adequate parts and supplies are available in storage.
  • Assist in developing analytical methods and performing analyses and generating reliable test results.
  • Efficiently monitor daily technical workload, equipment maintenance and inventory of the laboratories.
  • Receive, login and prepare, distribute and/or retain all incoming samples for the analytical, microbiological testing, stability and sensory testing within allocated time frames as assigned.
  • Prepare and send samples to external laboratories and follow-up on the progress.
  • Perform analysis on inter-laboratory samples as assigned.
  • Master all analytical techniques used in the laboratory.
  • Check accuracy of data before processing and review records.
  • Tabulate results entered into laboratory notebooks, Excel files and LIMS as appropriate.
  • Perform and participate in sensory evaluation on finished product.
  • Prepare reagents and necessary dilutions for analytical applications.
  • Perform verification and calibration on quality control and workshop laboratories equipment (daily monitoring and recording on SAP).
  • Manage the physical samples in the library.
  • When required, enter results for finished product authorizing the release of the product.
  • Perform first level maintenance on laboratory equipment (Elementar, Brabender, spectrophotometer, ICP).
  • Know and apply the provisions of the Quality Assurance system; participate in internal laboratory audits.
  • Communicate analytical data to supervisor daily as directed.
  • Follow safe work practices in the laboratories and workshop.
  • Discuss safety issues and challenges with Laboratory Manager.
  • Participate in improving laboratory safety.
  • Maintain reagents in locked cabinets and cleanliness of laboratory equipment.
Provide technical assistance to production

Assist with the development of analytical methods when required. Perform analytical testing in production workshops laboratories as directed. Train to support cleaning validations as desired.

Education and Experience

Education: A technical diploma from a recognized college coupled with 3-5 years’ laboratory experience in the food or related industry; B.Sc./BA in Chemistry, Food Science, Biology, Agriculture or Microbiology or other relatable science degree is highly preferred.

Experience: 2-3 years’ experience required working in a laboratory and performing physic-chemical analysis. Approximately 5 years’ experience in the field would be an asset; 5 years’ of relatable industrial or manufacturing laboratory field experience is preferred.
