Overview

We are seeking an experienced Kafka Administrator to manage, support, and optimize our enterprise messaging platforms. This role focuses primarily on Apache Kafka administration and monitoring with IBM MQ as a secondary skill. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in day-to-day operations, performance tuning, and ensuring security and reliability of messaging environments.

Responsibilities
  • Administer, configure, and maintain Apache Kafka clusters (brokers, topics, partitions, schema registry).
  • Perform daily operational tasks such as provisioning, scaling, patching, and upgrading Kafka environments.
  • Monitor health, performance, and capacity of messaging systems using observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace, etc.).
  • Troubleshoot issues in development, test, and production environments, including incident response and root cause analysis.
  • Apply and maintain security best practices (authentication, authorization, encryption, certificates).
  • Automate repetitive operational tasks (using Ansible, Shell, or Python scripting).
  • Support integration of Kafka with enterprise applications and ensure high availability.
  • Maintain clear operational documentation, runbooks, and knowledge articles.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and provide timely support during incidents.
Required qualifications
  • 5+ years administering enterprise messaging systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Apache Kafka administration (cluster setup, monitoring, performance tuning, troubleshooting).
  • Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace, ELK, or Splunk.
  • IBM MQ administration experience is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Linux system administration, networking concepts, and high-availability configurations.
  • Scripting ability in Shell, Python, or Ansible for automation.
  • Knowledge of containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes) is an asset.
Nice-to-have
  • Experience with Confluent Kafka (cloud or on-prem).
  • Understanding of event-driven architecture concepts.
  • Kafka or IBM MQ certifications.
