Job Summary

McCrum’s Designers provide contract furniture design and specification services to support the sales department. This role is responsible for producing high-quality, accurate project drawings and specifications. Designers collaborate with sales to create space plans, specify products, develop design standards, create renderings, and reconfigure existing setups. Additionally, Designers assist in selecting product lines, colors, and finishes when required. Success in this position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.

Applicants must currently live within the greater Calgary area for consideration.

Responsibilities
  • Attending client planning meetings to present plans and gain approval from Sales.
  • Conduct field measurements and verify plan adherence at job sites.
  • Inventory existing products and create accurate as-built drawings/specifications.
  • Develop detailed working drawings for specification and installation, ensuring alignment with construction, electrical, and A&D drawing sets.
  • Create and verify product specifications using CAD specification software, ensuring accuracy for order entry.
  • Manage design changes and revisions as needed.
  • Collaborate with project managers and installation teams for field and critical list reviews.
  • Ensure accurate transmission of project planning data to order management, project management, and installation teams.
  • Develop and present space plans, color/finish boards, and product options.
  • Follow established Design department processes to reduce inaccuracies and increase efficiency.
  • Estimate project timelines, track actual time spent, and maintain detailed daily time records.
  • Maintain extensive project documentation, including records of decisions, approvals, meeting notes, and correspondence.
  • Monitor adherence to project schedules, task completions, and overall design quality.
  • Communicate regularly with the Sales department regarding project progress.
  • Prepare plotting, printing, color boards, and renderings for client presentations and internal transmittals.
Requirements
  • Diploma or Degree in Interior Design is preferred
  • Experience in interior design or specification of office furniture is desirable
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered, Canadian and Local Municipality standards knowledge is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear and concise business correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and/or customers
  • Commitment to attention to detail and the maintenance of strict deadlines
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Strong knowledge of interior design field and current practices as they apply to corporate furnishings and an understanding of workplace environment issues (ergonomics, technology integration, teaming, etc.)
  • Ability to develop a working knowledge of the dealership’s contract furniture and demountable wall lines, including features/benefits, application and assembly, specifications and options
  • Willingness and drive to learn contract furniture processes, including order preparation, project management, order management and delivery/installation
  • Physically able to move around sites to perform inventory of all parts and components (occasionally in unfinished building spaces)
