Role Summary

Bouchier is seeking a Plumber who is ambitious, hardworking, and eager to learn new skills while supporting the HVAC Department with preventative maintenance activities. The Plumber plays a critical role in ensuring mechanical systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes.

This position bridges traditional plumbing expertise with HVAC installation and service requirements, working closely with HVAC technicians on tasks involving water supply, drainage systems, gas lines, condensate management, and overall system integration.

The Plumber is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing pipes, fittings, fixtures, and equipment associated with heating, cooling, water distribution, and sanitary systems in both residential and commercial environments. The role also includes inspecting drainage and plumbing systems to ensure full compliance with local and state codes, contributing to safe and reliable operation of all associated mechanical systems.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine layout of plumbing system, water supply network and waste and drainage systems
  • Assist in setting up water-based components such as hydronic systems, boilers, and chillers.
  • Install, modify, or repair piping related to heating and cooling systems, including copper, PEX, PVC, black iron, and gas piping.
  • Ensure proper slopes, support, and insulation on condensate drains and refrigerant line chase penetrations.
  • Install, test, and maintain condensate drain lines, pumps, traps, and overflow protection devices.
  • Resolve drainage issues connected to HVAC equipment (e.g., clogged drain pans or lines).
  • Assist with routing, sizing, and securing gas lines for furnaces, boilers, and water heaters.
  • Perform leak checks, pressure testing, and ensure combustion air requirements are met.
  • Install shutoff valves, backflow preventers, and other safety devices. Join pipes using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement or soldering, brazing and welding equipment
  • Perform basic pressure, flow, and leak tests to verify proper system installation.
  • Document findings and communicate issues to HVAC supervision
  • Follow all plumbing and mechanical codes, including venting, gas safety, and drainage standards.
  • Use lockout/tagout procedures when working around active equipment.
  • Communicate hazards, deficiencies, or unexpected issues to the HVAC supervisor promptly.
  • Work closely with HVAC technicians to coordinate installation sequencing and resolve conflicts between mechanical and plumbing layouts.
  • Able to read blueprints, schematics, and job-site plans alongside HVAC leads.
  • Comfortable using gauges, pressure testing equipment, pipe benders, cutters, and power tools. Measure, cut, bend and thread pipes using hand and power tools or machines
  • Support the HVAC team with tasks outside of standard plumbing duties when needed, if they align with safety and trade regulations
  • Receive and complete work orders.
  • Provide training, mentorship and support for Apprentices as required
  • Other duties as assigned
Education & Experience
  • Alberta-certified journeyperson or a recognized related trade certificate
  • Minimum of B Gas Ticket
  • Some high school or High School Diploma preferred
  • Ability to troubleshoot and rectify a large variety of operational problems
  • Thorough knowledge of plumbing system maintenance and repairs
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in an oilfield industrial environment / industrial experience is preferred
  • Experience in servicing residential/commercial heating equipment
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • CSO (Common Safety Orientation)
  • WHIMS 2015
  • Good mathematical, scientific, mechanical and logical reasoning abilities
  • Ability to get along well with others on a work team
