The Opportunity:The Truro News, Tri-County Vanguard, New Glasgow News, Valley Journal Advertiser, and Annapolis Valley Register are seeking a multimedia journalist to join our team. Our ideal candidate is skilled at web reporting, proficient at writing articles quickly and efficiently and can condense information in a way that explains or analyzes what’s happening for our online readers. Driven by the demands of speed and online readership growth, the multimedia journalist must flexibly juggle assignments as well as generating ideas for content to attract and keep readers returning to our website daily. A strong understanding of SEO and best practices for web is considered a bonus, as is familiarity with platforms like Wordpress, but support and training will be provided. We’re looking for someone who is interested in diving deeper into issues that impact the lives of communities throughout Pictou County and Colchester County. Familiarity with current events is helpful. Our candidate is a team player, willing to work with colleagues to do investigative pieces or larger projects, and able to work independently, as this is a work-from-home role. However, the candidate must be able to provide in-person coverage of events throughout the coverage area. The ability to use digital tools to identify news needs and maximize ways to meet them is critical to the position, as is working closely with the managing editor and assistant news editor. The position is a non-unionized job, working with a remote newsroom.
What you’ll do:This is a non-unionized position at 37.5 hours per week, with weekend and evening work required.
