Job description

Position: Java Development Instructor

Reports to: Operations Manager

Job Status: Ongoing Part-time

Location: Toronto, Yonge & Eglinton (164 Eglinton Ave East, Suite 301)

Working Hours: To be determined

Salary: $35 - $40 per hour

Job Description: As a Java Development Instructor, you will be responsible for designing, updating, and delivering Java programming courses. This includes:

  • Course Design and Development
  • Consulting with program/course administrators, faculty, advisory committees, and industry partners to define learning outcomes and validate curriculum
  • Reviewing and revising course curriculum as needed, and participating in professional development activities

Course Instruction:

  • Delivering regularly scheduled instruction in Fall, Winter, Spring or Summer terms
  • Ensuring students are aware of course learning outcomes and evaluation methods
  • Providing tutoring, academic advising, and creating a learning environment that makes effective use of available resources
  • Evaluating student progress and overall assessment of student work

Academic Leadership:

  • Providing guidance to students, instructors, and part-time professors related to teaching assignments
  • Participating in curriculum committees, departmental/faculty meetings, and community engagement activities
  • Staying current with industry trends and best practices in teaching and learning

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of teaching experience, preferably in a postsecondary setting
  • Minimum 5 years of practical experience in the field of study

Skills and Abilities:

  • Practical experience with multiple programming languages, with a focus on Java
  • Working knowledge of database management systems
