IT Systems Administrator – Permanent

Start Date: Immediate

Salary: Level 7 Step 1 ($88,666.50 annually)

Reporting to the Senior Information Advisor and supported by external IT service providers, the incumbent manages and maintains the TH Government’s core IT infrastructure, which includes servers, networks and security systems. The incumbent provides advanced technical expertise and handles Tier 3 escalations for complex issues, ensuring system reliability, performance and compliance with legislation and policies. The incumbent oversees day‑to‑day operations and supports IT projects such as system upgrades, virtualization, cloud integration and disaster recovery planning. The incumbent supervises and provides mentorship and training to IT Support Technicians and interns. The role requires strong problem‑solving skills, leadership abilities and a commitment to maintaining high availability and security across all IT systems.

An eligibility list may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent, part‑time, temporary, term or auxiliary on‑call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by advancing the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Diploma/Certificate or post‑secondary courses in computer systems, combined with a minimum of three years of experience in network administration and providing technical support to users; an equivalent combination of education, experience, skills and abilities may be considered.
  • General knowledge of data processing and networking principles and technology, including software applications, hardware and operating systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy and enterprise backup solutions.
  • Experience in disaster recovery planning and implementation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 administration and security.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) for identity and access management.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP based networks.
  • Help‑Desk experience.
Assets:
  • An IT certification is considered an asset.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper‑V) and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) is an asset.
  • Certifications such as MCSA, MCSE, CompTIA Network+/Security+, VMware or Azure Administrator are considered assets.
