Are you ready to take the next step in your environmental career? As an Intermediate Terrestrial Ecologist based in Thunder Bay, you’ll be part of a collaborative ecology team working at the intersection of biodiversity, conservation, and sustainable development. You’ll contribute to meaningful projects across Ontario—helping clients balance growth with ecological integrity, while developing as a scientist and leader.

Your Impact
  • Lead and support terrestrial field programs including wildlife surveys (breeding birds, amphibians, bats, winter tracking), vegetation mapping, botanical inventories, and Species at Risk assessments.
  • Apply terrestrial ecology expertise to compile, analyze, and interpret field data to shape impact assessments and defend clear, science‑based recommendations.
  • Contribute to environmental approvals and regulatory deliverables, including ESA/SCA‑related documentation and multidisciplinary project reports.
  • Support aquatic habitat assessments as needed to strengthen integrated ecosystem assessments.
  • Mentor junior field staff and contribute to a culture committed to learning, safety, and high‑quality ecological practice.
  • Build strong relationships through engagement with clients, Indigenous communities, regulatory authorities, and internal partners across regions.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to bring ecological insight into engineering, planning, and development projects.
  • Take on varied ecological tasks—because no two days in this role are the same.
The Skills That Set You Apart
  • 5+ years of hands‑on experience in environmental consulting or applied terrestrial ecology.
  • A degree Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline, with proven advanced field skills in wildlife, vegetation, or SAR survey methodologies.
  • Applied knowledge or training in Ecological Land Classification (ELC) and/or Ontario Wetland Evaluation System (OWES).
  • Comfort working outdoors—including remote settings, variable conditions, and non‑standard hours when required.
  • Familiarity with Ontario environmental legislation, permitting pathways, and applied ecological standards.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s licence and access to a vehicle; ATV/UTV/snowmobile training is an asset.
  • A mindset driven by curiosity, initiative, scientific rigor, and a deep commitment to safe field practices.

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $69,700 – $92,300

MB & ON: $63,600 – $87,500

NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $62,900 – $83,600
