KWL is seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer (P.Eng.) with 4–8 years of experience in district energy systems to join our Energy team. This role is suited to an engineer who is technically strong, detail-oriented, and comfortable contributing to mechanical design across a range of infrastructure projects. You will work within multi-disciplinary teams to deliver practical, constructible solutions that support our clients’ decarbonization and climate action goals, while growing your technical and professional skills in a collaborative, flexible environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Deliver mechanical design for district energy infrastructure projects
  • Prepare and review:
  • Mechanical calculations and equipment sizing
  • PFDs, P&IDs, and system layouts
  • Construction drawings, specifications, and tender packages
  • Coordinate with civil, electrical, structural, and controls teams
  • Support projects through feasibility, conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design
  • Participate in design reviews, constructability, and value engineering
  • Provide technical support during procurement and construction
  • Interface with clients, utilities, and contractors
  • Support and mentor junior engineers and EITs, as appropriate

What You’ll Bring

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), registered with EGBC or eligible for immediate registration
  • 4–8 years of mechanical engineering experience
  • Working knowledge of hydronic systems, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, and controls
  • Experience with Distribution Piping System (DPS)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong communication skills and interest in sustainable energy solutions
  • Must be physically able to conduct field visits commensurate with project work. This may include handling and operation of equipment, travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, and outdoor site visits in all weather conditions on uneven/varying ground terrain .

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Energy Transfer Station (ETS) and/or central Energy Plants
  • Experience with sewage heat recovery (SHR) and ambient temperature loop systems
  • Exposure to thermal energy storage
  • Experience with municipal or utility infrastructure projects is an asset
  • Experience supporting construction or commissioning

Wage Range

  • $106,000.00 – 117,000.00 , wage dependent on years of experience
