Job summary

Interim Executive Director

Organization: Black Eco Bloom
Location: Remote - Canada-based

What You Will Be Doing
  • Under the general direction of the Board of Directors, lead day-to-day operations and organizational development of Black Eco Bloom.
  • Implement the priorities set by the Board, stabilize governance and internal systems, and ensure that Black Eco Bloom’s work continues to center Black women and Black gender-diverse people in the environmental sector.
  • Provide strategic leadership and professional advice to the Board on governance, programming, partnerships, and funding. Oversee the design and coordination of programming, relationship-building with community and sector partners, and the preparation of program and budget reports for funders and the Board.
  • Work closely with the Board Chair to develop and execute a short-term (12–18 months) organizational roadmap and a practical funding plan that supports Black Eco Bloom’s mission, values, and long-term sustainability.
Position Overview
  • Location: Remote - Canada-based.
  • Hours: 10-15 hours per week.
  • Contract: 6-month contract, with possibility of extension.
  • Compensation: $40/hour.
Desired Qualifications & Experience
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in community engagement and program coordination/design.
  • Experience creating and/or adapting programming and budget reports for boards, funders, or community partners.
  • Expertise or strong skills in program management (planning, tracking, implementation).
Management & Leadership
  • Experience overseeing staff and/or volunteers, even in small teams or grassroots contexts.
  • Comfort as the organization's leading representative in public spaces and conversations.
  • Ability to navigate complex situations with care, especially in Black, feminist, or queer community environments.
  • Experience attending or engaging in conferences, gatherings, and community or climate sector events in Canada or internationally.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with community partners, networks, and institutions.
Additional Assets
  • Familiarity with nonprofit governance and Board relations.
  • Experience in climate, environmental, or justice movements in Canada.
  • Experience with grant-funded projects and working with philanthropic or institutional funders.
