Overview

The Controls IT Integration team is responsible for validating manufacturing equipment datasets in support of various GM IT Manufacturing IT systems across GM. Candidates will find the position very rewarding - tackling legacy system integration, deployment of new manufacturing technologies supporting business intelligence solutions to improve the operational efficiencies of the business. Candidates must be up for a challenge and be prepared to work collaboratively across the organization to design, build and sustain systems that enable GM to continue as the leader in the automotive business.

The GM Manufacturing Controls Integration Engineers are critical to ensuring the Manufacturing IT Controls Memory Map specification is comprehensively and accurately deployed within GM's Engine, Transmission and Castings product programs. Manufacturing Controls Integration Engineer responsibilities range from high-level business and supplier user interfaces to define and document IT dataset technical specifications, to hands-on dataset validation and debugging to ensure accurate and timely delivery of product launch related Manufacturing IT systems. Role requires physical location/travel to GM vendor and manufacturing sites while performing work representing the goals and direction from the Central IT group in Warren, MI.

Responsibilities
  • Validate manufacturing equipment datasets and support deployment of IT systems across GM.
  • Design, build and sustain IT data systems to enable GM operations and product launches.
  • Collaborate across the organization to ensure accurate and timely delivery of Manufacturing IT systems.
  • Represent IT project management in plant meetings and related functions to assist in meeting launch IT performance goals.
  • Understand and document IT dataset technical specifications, and perform hands-on dataset validation and debugging.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent work experience
  • Microsoft Office Excel and Word capabilities
  • Proficient in English

  • Knowledge or exposure to manufacturing processes and systems
  • Supports and drives GM IT launch implementation initiatives
  • Participates in functional area plant meetings and related functions to represent IT project management and to assist in meeting launch IT performance goals
  • Learns technical concepts and practices quickly
  • Communicates issues to proper parties within affected departments
  • Provides defined technical support and direction to support personnel within the organization
  • Investigates dataset integration problems and provides technical input in problem resolution
  • Works with Central office teams to promote common systems and best practices
  • Assures common IT architecture for all new and revised tooling and equipment
  • Communicates IT Launch requirements to the appropriate staffs and coordinates controls integration activities with the plant business team
  • Maintains good working relationships with peers, hourly, union, management, supplier community and interfaces with necessary support functions inside and outside of the plant
  • Ability to grasp complex systems easily
  • Develops and monitors planning timetables and project schedules
  • Reports planning progress to all departments impacted
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Able to take highly technical discussions to the appropriate level to foster proper understanding to drive decisions and forward progress

This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Markham three times per week, at minimum.
