Indigenous Student Advisor (ISA) Attendance Focus
Location: W. Earl Miller Public School and Pinecrest Public School
Start date: As soon as possible

Responsibilities
- Provide intensive supports to students who identify as Indigenous with the goal of personal excellence for all students.
- Assist staff in improving achievement, attendance, well-being, and graduation rates for Indigenous students throughout DSB Ontario North East.
- Support and promote attendance among Indigenous-identified students; build positive relationships with students, families, Nations, outside agencies, and community partners to address attendance barriers.
- Be the primary contact for attendance of students who self-identify as Indigenous.
- Daily tracking of attendance using Power BI to support and monitor attendance.
- Monitor attendance data and provide regular reports to school administration.
- Regularly communicate with families of students at risk of persistent absenteeism.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve attendance using prevention, intervention, and monitoring approaches.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to identify at-risk students and develop targeted intervention plans utilizing high-yield strategies from Attendance Matters.
- Conduct home visits, meetings, and outreach to engage families and address attendance concerns.
- Create and enhance a welcoming and supportive space; build close, supportive relationships with students, families, Nations, and outside agencies.
- Advocate for Indigenous students within the school team (staff, families, Nation(s), community services and outside agencies).
- Collaborate with community organizations to connect students and families with additional resources and support.
- Participate in professional development to enhance knowledge and skills related to Indigenous education and support services.
Qualifications
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma and/or relevant experience.
- Post-secondary education is an asset (e.g., Educational Assistant, Social Work).
- Valid driver's license is required.
- Demonstrated experience/knowledge of cultural teachings and best practices is required.
Salary as per the current OSSTF - PSSP Collective Agreement.
