This employment opportunity is restricted to residents of Iqaluit only. Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources Development, the Human Resources Coordinator (HR Coordinator) will help develop, implement, monitor and evaluate comprehensive training and human resources planning to provide technical guidance and policy advice to all divisions of the department in the areas of human resources development. The incumbent plays an integral part in the implementation and monitoring of the departmental Inuit Employment Plan. This position impacts on the efficient delivery of payroll services to all Divisions in the Department, by overseeing the processing of timesheets, shift premium and overtime claims.
The HR Coordinator provides advice and assistance to Senior Management on HR activities such as but not limited to recruitment and hiring processes; staff movement (e.g., transfers, terminations, acting assignments); payroll transactions; leave and attendance administration; job description development; the handling of disciplinary cases and labour relations issues, and audits/reviews of HR information. The HR Coordinator provides input to the development of the departmental Inuit Employment Plan (IEP) and participates in its implementation and monitoring by tracking each initiative. The incumbent will conduct extensive verification processes to evaluate data accuracy and initiates corrective action to maintain a wide range of complete, accurate, confidential and secure HR files in accordance with records management policy.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized college diploma in Human Resources Management, Labor or Industrial Relations or related field along with two (2) years of Human Resources related experience.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
