Position Title: Career Life Education, Media and Drama Teacher

Reports to: Head of School

FTE: 0.14 FTE (Part-time)

Pay: CA$53,810.00-CA$85,156.00 per year

Location: Vancouver Waldorf School

Position Summary

The Career Life Education, Media and Drama Teacher inspires students through artistic expression, performance, and critical engagement with media. In alignment with Waldorf pedagogy, this role nurtures imagination, creativity, and self-confidence while supporting the development of clear thinking and healthy social interaction. The teacher will guide students in both the performing arts and the thoughtful exploration of media, helping them cultivate discernment, collaboration, and a love of artistic work.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Curriculum

  • Plan and deliver engaging drama classes across the grades, fostering creativity, confidence, and storytelling skills.
  • Direct class plays and support theatrical productions, integrating artistic, musical, and movement-based elements.
  • Develop and teach age-appropriate lessons on media literacy, encouraging critical thinking and healthy relationships with technology.
  • Adapt Waldorf educational principles into lessons that support the developmental stage of each grade and translate into strong career and life goals.

Collaboration & Community

  • Work collaboratively with faculty to integrate drama and media into the broader curriculum.
  • Participate in school festivals, performances, and events, contributing to the artistic life of the community.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, and guardians about student progress and class activities.

Professionalism & Development

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and reports.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and training in Waldorf pedagogy and the arts.
  • Contribute to faculty meetings, committees, and collaborative initiatives as needed.

Qualifications & Skills

  • BC Teaching Certificate or the ability to qualify through the BC Ministry of Education Teacher Certification Branch.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Theatre/Drama, Media Studies, or related field required.
  • Waldorf teacher training or a strong willingness to engage in Waldorf professional development.
  • Experience teaching drama, theatre, or media literacy to children or adolescents.
  • Ability to direct class plays and organize performance-based projects.
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to inspire students of different ages and abilities.
  • Collaborative spirit and commitment to building positive relationships within a school community.
