Job summary

A regional construction firm has immediate openings for Heavy Equipment Service Technicians in Fort McMurray, Alberta. This position involves performing scheduled servicing, conducting inspections, and making minor repairs on heavy equipment to ensure reliable operation. Ideal candidates should have 3–5 years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance, possess a valid Class 1 or 3 operator’s license, and be able to work independently. Job description

Thompson Construction Group has immediate openings for Heavy Equipment Service Technicians working out of our Fort McMurray operations. This role is responsible for performing scheduled servicing, inspections, and minor repairs on heavy equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.

Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed 500-hour inspections on equipment, identifying defects, leaks, cracks, wear, and damage
  • Inspect components including radiators, edges, tips, wear strips, tires, tracks, and drive systems
  • Repair or replace hoses, clamps, bolts, fittings, lights, and lubrication or hydraulic lines as required
  • Service, grease, and lubricate equipment in accordance with maintenance schedules
  • Document machine hours, unit numbers, deficiencies, and required repairs
  • Request parts and record maintenance activities accurately
  • Diagnose and repair company assets and assist other maintenance personnel as needed
  • Complete repair orders, inspections, and time tracking in accordance with company procedures
  • Maintain service trucks to ensure they are clean, organized, and ready for use at all times
  • Perform oil, air, and cabin filter changes
Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of heavy equipment maintenance experience
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
  • Strong understanding of safety practices and compliance with all safety standards
  • Valid Class 1 or Class 3 operator’s license with air brakes (current abstract required)
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate work with crew, foremen, and superintendents
  • Willingness to work in the Fort McMurray area and live in remote camps on a rotational schedule
  • CSO, CSTS/OSSA or BSO certification
  • Physically able to perform all duties of the position
  • Ability to pass a pre-access drug and alcohol test
