Job summary

A First Nation Education Organization in Thunder Bay is looking for a Guidance / Student Support Worker to assist students with career education and academic support. The ideal candidate will have a relevant degree and experience with Indigenous youth. This contract runs from September 2025 to June 2026, and flexibility in working hours is required.

Responsibilities

  • Support and promote career education.
  • Develop orientation programs for new and returning students.
  • Counsel students to develop their knowledge and skills.
  • Lead recreational, educational, and social activities.
  • Provide transportation for students to events.

Skills

Post Secondary Degree in counselling / guidance or equivalent experience
Computer / data entry skills
Excellent oral / written communication skills
Experience working with Indigenous youth
Valid Ontario driver's license
Ability to work flexible hours

The Eabametoong First Nation Education Authority is an organization committed to providing Eabametoong First Nation students with the support needed to complete their academic achievements. The Eabametoong First Nation Education Authority operates a branch office located in Thunder Bay that provides support for the Secondary students attending high school in Thunder Bay.

The objective of the Secondary program is to support Eabametoong First Nation students by providing mentorship, academic resources, and a culturally relevant curriculum, enabling them to access secondary education and graduate with critical thinking, communication, and academic skills essential for success in higher education.

Guidance / Student Support Worker

Contract term of employment: September 2025 - June 2026

Qualifications
  • Post Secondary Degree in counselling / guidance or equivalent experience
  • Computer / data entry skills
  • Must have valid Ontario driver\'s license
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Excellent oral / written communication skills
  • Experience working with Indigenous youth
Duties
  • Support and promote career education
  • Support and develop orientation programs for new and returning students
  • Develop partnerships with local high schools
  • Counselling students
  • Working with students to assist in developing their knowledge, skills, and strategies, example : job searches, applying to post secondary programs
  • To lead and participate in various recreational, educational, and social activities and to accompany students either to other functions for scheduling meetings
  • To provide transportation for students to events
  • To undertake any additional activities as may be required from time to time in accordance with the Boarding Home Guidelines and Secondary Student Policy
  • To partake in training
  • Other duties may be assigned
