Position Summary

The Seasonal Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining Rocky View County cemeteries, parks, municipal reserves, and environmental reserves. The Groundskeeper will be responsible to help senior team members in all aspects of seasonal maintenance. Due to the sensitive nature of cemetery operations, a mature individual who can capably manage formal and informal "end of human life" environments involving the Cemetery and a positive attitude is necessary for this position. A superior customer service attitude is required as there will be limited interaction with the public.

Have reliable transportation to get to work and able to work 5 x 8-hour days (7:30 am - 4:00 pm) on a monthly rotating shift (Mon-Fri | Tue-Sat) throughout the season.

Maintain grounds within the County to include:

  • mowing
  • landscaping
  • trimming
  • planting trees and shrubs
  • laying sod
  • maintaining planted flowers and flower beds
  • watering
  • manual weed control
  • garbage pickup
  • Operate up to sixty (60) horsepower tractors, riding and push mowers, rototillers, weed whips, gators and ½ ton pickup trucks.
  • Install, maintain, level and repair flat memorial markers.
  • Perform and actively participate in tailgate safety meetings, hazard identification and mitigation as required.
  • Follow direction of assigned tasks to meet timelines.
  • Display a professional and ethical responsibility to protect privacy, use information appropriately, and maintain the confidentiality and security of all information related to employees, business, and residents of Rocky View County.
  • Work in accordance with the requirements established by the RVC Health and Safety Program and the Alberta OHS Act, Regulation and Code.
  • Take reasonable care to protect their health and safety and other persons at or in the vicinity of the worksite while they are working.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience of basic computer functions (log on, check emails, open and save documents in MS Office Suite) as well as basic keyboarding skills.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Position Requirements
  • Demonstrate and execute safe and skillful operation of equipment at all times.
  • Physically able to perform demanding tasks on a continuous basis including bending, shoveling, lifting up to twenty-seven (27) kilograms (60 pounds), and operating equipment for extended periods of time.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service, organizational, prioritizing, time management skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Participate in and contribute to safety meetings and job hazard assessment reviews.
  • Ensure appropriate utilization of personal protective equipment (PPE) required (e.g., CSA footwear).
  • Must possess a valid class 5 Alberta driver’s license (GDL may be considered) with minimal infractions and have access to reliable transportation (abstract pulled by the County during pre-employment process).
  • Ability to work weekends and overtime, as required.
