Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY: In a cooperative team-based environment, the role will assist with general coordination of community partnerships and fundraising opportunities and events throughout the year.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.
1. General Support and Administration
- Ensure that all duties are completed in accordance with the principles, standards, policies, and procedures of The Salvation Army.
- Assist and support MU(s)/facility to achieve its mission and influence in the community through increased presence, public awareness, and funding support for local ministries/facility.
- Provide administration and support in the planning, coordination, and all other- for the events.
- Source and manage vendors, create timelines and detail-oriented plans.
- Coordinate and prepare technical and logistical aspects of events (set up, tear down and clean up).
- Be on site for all events, assist with set up and tear down.
- Draft event communication plans and CRITICAL paths.
- Implement ideas to boost event attendance.
- Provide logistical support as needed for territorial special events.
- Be an active member of event planning committees such as congress and commissioning, program services, and other Salvation Army conferences as required.
- Assist in creating event briefs and briefing volunteers and necessary staff.
- Develop a list of business contacts for events/data management.
- Take photographs at events for future use and publication and write post-event summaries.
- Provide administrative support for events such as submitting insurance/permit requests and responding to event-related inquiries.
- Participate in regular MU(s)/facility staff meetings; provide regular reports related to community relations.
- Provide administrative, organization and practical support to Christmas Kettle Campaign and other fundraising initiatives; may assume the role of Christmas Kettle Coordinator for the campaign’s duration.
- Provide administrative support to program funding proposals and grant applications preparation as required.
- Seek opportunities to build and foster personal relationships and partnerships with local business, community groups and organizations.
- Organize community events/programs to promote TSA brand in the region.
- Maintain accurate written records, logs of activities, including activity reports and statistical information.
- Ensure that required documentation and records are prepared in an organized and timely manner.
2. Volunteer Coordination
- Coordinate volunteers during Christmas Kettles, programs, events, etc.
- Provide support to volunteers and ensure that they work together to achieve the purposes of the organization.
- Contribute towards recommendations for volunteer development.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT:
- Minor material responsibility (banners, brochures, etc.).
- May receive monetary and non-monetary donations.
- May handle petty cash.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This is a Part Time Temporary Position.
- Work is typically in an office environment.
- Flexibility in scheduling required, some weekend and evening work required during the Christmas Kettle Campaign.
- Requires standing for long periods of time; being able to carry lift/move up to 39 lbs; un-packing delivery vehicles; bending; twisting; keyboarding and sitting for extended periods of time.
- May be required to carry a cell phone.
- Limited travelling may be required for some roles.
- Requires wearing appropriate Salvation Army identification when necessary; attire is business casual.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
General
- Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Alternative combination of education and experience may be considered.
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Completion of high school plus a formal post-secondary/college certificate program or specialized certification in a related field.
- Valid certification in First Aid/CPR and Non-violent crisis intervention training or willingness to take upon hiring.
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience and Knowledge:
- Two years of frontline experience in fundraising, public relations, marketing, customer service, or related field.
- Good in MS Word and Excel skills.
- Good networking skills.
Skills and Capabilities:
- Valid driver’s license and clear driver’s abstract is required; personal vehicle may be required for some roles.
- Ability to apply 39 lbs of force to lift or move materials.
- Demonstrate a high level of integrity, good judgment, and ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality.
- Self-motivated and disciplined.
- Creative, innovative and develop new and unique ways to improve and create new fundraising opportunities.
- Ability to work independently; maintain confidentiality; projecting a positive, professional and helpful attitude.
- Communicate effectively, and exercise good interpersonal skills by displaying tact, courtesy and patience with clients, staff, and community partners.

- Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
- If limited travelling is required using organizational or personal vehicle, a valid driver’s license and clear driver’s abstract is required.
- Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $22.92 to $28.64 with a maximum of $34.37. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
