Position Title : Supervisor, Food & Beverage

Reports To : Executive Chef & Dining Room Manager

Hours / Week : 40-44 hours / week with flexibility and depending on seasonality & functions.

Compensation : Salaried wage negotiable based on experience, medical benefits after 3 months, complimentary parking, complimentary soft drinks, discounted meals.

Our 1,000+ strong membership all enjoy our prime amenities including the Dining Room and food & beverage experience NYC offers.

NYC is seeking a Supervisor, Food & Beverage on a full-time basis to become part of our team. The incumbent would join a team that includes one other Supervisor. NYC is looking to complement the skill set already on board and hire someone who will bring a positive attitude and a commitment to service and can help the already great NYC dining experience elevate to a new level.

The ideal candidate has years of serving, bartending, and ideally supervisory experience in a pub / upscale restaurant environment. You are a positive leader and can train others, team player, not afraid to work hard, and can be a jack-of-all-trades in terms of bartending, serving tables, bussing tables, and leading a team, you have a sense or urgency, and you are committed to delivering a positive member experience.

As a supervisor, you bring positivity and an up-beat attitude, a sense of urgency to ensure member-first service is a state of mind. You have years of experience serving, bartending, and ideally supervisory experience in a pub / upscale restaurant environment.

You can train others, you can multi-task and make well thought out decisions. You are a team player, not afraid to work hard, and can be a jack-of-all-trades in terms of bartending, serving tables, bussing tables, and leading a team, and you are committed to delivering a positive member experience.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Be the "face" of National Yacht Club by greeting members and guests as they enter the Dining Room.
  • 3+ years experience bartending, creating cocktails, opening wine at tables
  • Serving tables.
  • Ensure NYC offers the highest level of service to the membership showing attentiveness.
  • Able to lead staff through all service types (a la carte, club event, banquet, etc.).
  • Leads event setup, service, and breakdown.
  • Receives and resolves complaints concerning dining service. Informs Executive Chef.
  • Leads training and the supervision of dining staff.
  • Assists in service regularly.
  • Serves as liaison between the dining and kitchen staff.
  • Inspects employees to ensure that they are always in proper and clean uniforms.
  • Ensure everything is with a standard in terms of cleaning, presentation of room / tables, uniform set-up, ambiance, etc
  • Takes reservations, checks table reservation schedules and maintains reservations log.
  • Designs floor plans according to reservations.
  • Directs pre-meal meetings with dining personnel; relays pertinent information such as new items and menu changes, special member requests, etc.
  • Ensure that all closing duties have been done correctly. In charge of post shift walkthrough to make sure the clubhouse is organized, and duties have been completed.
  • Assures that all side-work is accomplished and that all cleaning of equipment and storage areas is completed according to schedule.
  • Reviews chits and closing reports of servers at the end of the shift. Thoroughly reviews chits and corrects mistakes.
  • Assures the correct appearance, cleanliness and safety of dining room areas, equipment, and fixtures; checks the maintenance of all equipment in the dining rooms and reports deficiencies and maintenance concerns.
  • Locks the clubhouse and secures any club assets before leaving for the night or appoints the proper personnel to do so. Ensure a club walkthrough is complete to make sure the club is safe and secure.
  • Produces daily or meal-period revenue analysis and other reports from point of sale (POS) systems used in the dining room when requested.
  • Makes suggestions about improvements in dining service procedures and layout.
  • Attending scheduled staff meetings.
  • Assists in developing wine lists and beverage promotions.
  • Maintains an inventory of dining room items including silverware, coffee pots, water pitchers, glassware, flatware and China, salt and pepper holders, sugar caddies and linen and ensures that they are properly stored and accounted for.
  • Utilizes point of sale to accurately charge members, create forecast and revenue reports and write correspondence.
  • Develops and continually updates and refines policy and procedure manuals for service staff to increase quality and to control costs.
  • Works with Executive Chef / to update, review and print menu changes.
  • Help maintain costs and sales goals monthly by controlling inventory and creating fresh ideas to boost revenue.
  • Minimize labor costs by cutting servers and assuming the role of the server during slow periods.
  • Maintains all Food & Beverage menus ensuring what is presented to the Members is accurate at all times. Updates the service staff of any shortages or changes to these menus at the appropriate pre-shift meetings.
  • Follow Smart Serve and the club policies and procedures for the service of alcoholic beverages are consistently followed.
  • Performs other appropriate assignments and projects as required by the Executive Chef & Dining Room Manager.
Skills & Qualifications
  • 3+ years serving experience required
  • 2+ years bartending experience required
  • 2+ year(s) supervisory experience & training staff considered an asset required
  • 1+ year organizing or serving at banquets
  • Valid Smart Serve certification
  • Ability to speak, read, communicate in English
  • Experience with POS systems required. Experience with "Jonas" considered an asset
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment that is fluid and requires multitasking

Working Conditions

This position routinely requires sitting, standing, walking, kneeling / squatting, bending / stooping, pushing / pulling, holding / lifting, twisting, reaching, and climbing stairs. The employee will have the ability to lift and / or move at least fifty pounds on a consistent basis. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to work outdoors May-October.
