Position: Finance Manager / Controller

We are looking to hire a results-oriented and experienced Finance Manager / Controller to join our client’s dynamic manufacturing team in Ajax, Ontario.

In this hands-on leadership role, you will work closely with the plant operations team and report directly to the Regional Controller. You will be responsible for coordinating and executing all daily activities of the Accounting / Finance Department, ensuring the timely and accurate reporting of the company’s North American operations. This role oversees a team of three to four employees in Accounts Payable and Payroll.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee full-cycle accounting processes, ensuring accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual closings.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements in compliance with ASPE, US GAAP, and IFRS.
  • Manage budgeting and forecasting processes, providing actionable insights to support strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Conduct account reconciliations for AP, AR, payroll, inventory, and bank accounts, promptly investigating and resolving discrepancies.
  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries, accruals, and adjustments as part of the period-end close process.
  • Monitor bank balances, verify deposits and expenses, and maintain prepaid expenses schedules for accurate reporting.
  • Compile and analyze monthly and quarterly financial metrics, generating reports for senior management.
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian and U.S. tax regulations, including filing of sales tax returns.
  • Manage credit insurance programs and risk mitigation processes.
  • Maintain strong relationships with banks, CRA, auditors, tax advisors, and insurance providers.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, explanations, and insights.
  • Conduct periodic internal controls testing to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of three to four accounting professionals, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Drive process improvements and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support operational initiatives and strategic projects.
  • Perform additional ad hoc reporting, analysis, and special projects as required.
Qualifications
  • CPA designation (CGA, CA, CMA, or equivalent) required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum 7+ years of progressive accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • At least 3 years of supervisory or management experience in accounting or finance.
  • Knowledge of ASPE, US GAAP, and IFRS.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (Dynamics 365 preferred).
  • Strong MS Excel skills.
  • Knowledge of standard cost accounting concepts.
  • Experience with ADP and / or payroll processing is an asset.
  • Be flexible to cover for payroll when needed.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and multi-tasking skills.
  • High level of integrity, dependability, and results orientation.
