Family Support Coordinator – Winnipeg Sub Office

1 FULL TIME POSITION

BACKGROUND:

Island Lake First Nation Family Services was originally established and operated under the auspices of the Awasis Agency of Northern Manitoba on April 30, 1983. On April 21, 1997, Island Lake First Nation Family Services was incorporated as its own agency.

Island Lake First Nations Family Services consists of four communities: Garden Hill First Nation, St. Theresa Point First Nation, Wasagamack First Nation, and Red Sucker Lake First Nation with the total population of well over 10,000 people.

SUMMARY:

The Family Support Coordinator reports to the Director of Services (South) and provides guidance and supervision to the family support connectors. This position works in collaboration with all Agency programs to provide support needed for children, youth and families.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide regular supervision of family connectors.
  • Conducts annual evaluations of staff.
  • Participate in the recruitment and hiring of support workers.
  • Provide orientation and training to family connectors and support workers on documentation and note taking.
  • Maintain a tracking system for all support contracts, including elder contracts.
  • Ensure an emergency list of support workers is always maintained.
  • Attend community events for the purpose of recruitment.
  • Build community partnerships to address service gaps to support children and families.
  • Recruit support staff with special skills for medical needs of children and families.
  • Ensure there is a list of support workers with the knowledge and language of the Anisininew Nation.
  • Recruit and maintain a complement of Elders to provide cultural services.
  • Provide coverage for other teams when needed.
  • Submits yearly activity plan for the unit.
  • Participates in agency committees and activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • 3 – 4 years experience in a social work setting or a related field.Experience in management.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills with direct experience working with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel, and database systems with demonstrated accuracy.
  • Customer service focus with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple responsibilities while maintaining a keen sense of accuracy and attention to detail.

SALARY: Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $74,177 – $86,225 annually.
