Who we need
Reporting to the Campus and Executive Support Manager, the Facilities Supervisor ensures the university campus is safe, clean, efficient, and conducive to the daily productivity and well-being of students, faculty, staff, and guests.
You will lead a team of seven Facilities Coordinators and collaborate with a range of departments to support building operations, events, and essential services.
You will support the evolving needs of maintenance, vendor relations, and process efficiencies on our growing campus while fostering an inclusive and motivated work environment.
This is an on-site position based at our Steeles Avenue campus in Toronto, with occasional Saturday availability required.
What’s in it for you
Impact. Your work behind the scenes will influence safety, comfort, and functionality for all members of our community. This is a dynamic role with meaningful visibility and the potential to elevate operational excellence campus-wide.
Influence. As a Facilities Supervisor, you will influence facilities strategy, support procurement decisions, and drive process innovation. You will inherit a team eager to grow, and have the chance to provide motivation and support.
Career development. Yorkville is a forward-thinking academic institution committed to innovation and collaboration. While highly valued and critical to our organization, it is important to note that this is a non academic, non administration role and as such career path opportunities are also not academic or administration related. You will have the chance to grow your skills, your exposure across the campus, and your accountabilities.
As our new Facilities Supervisor, you will focus on:
- A comprehensive facilities maintenance program. You will develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance program to ensure the proper functioning of all building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and exterior maintenance. You will participate in facilities-related projects, including expansions, renovations, and relocations.
- Team supervision. You will nurture an inclusive and collaborative environment, meet with Facilities Coordinators on a regular basis to understand their day-to-day tasks, challenges, and goals, and provide coaching and performance management.
- Third-party services. You will oversee routine inspections, repairs, and maintenance tasks to keep the facilities in optimal condition and coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialized repairs and maintenance services. You will be on-site to oversee and assist with event setup, access, operation, and take down in collaboration with internal and external teams.
- Safety. You will collaborate on emergency response planning and support campus-wide safety initiatives. You will verify adherence to all health and safety regulations, building codes, and environmental standards. You will conduct regular safety inspections, identify potential hazards, and implement corrective measures.
- Inventory. You will maintain an accurate inventory of supplies and align usage with product standards and provide training in safe usage.
You have:
- The experience. You have facilities management experience in an academic, hospital, manufacturing, or warehouse environment. You bring a supervisory background in a fast-paced setting and understand how to lead with empathy and accountability. You possess working knowledge of building systems, maintenance procedures, and workplace safety practices. You are committed to working across departments, supporting diverse needs, and delivering consistent service.
- The resourcefulness. You are hands-on, adaptable, and take ownership for solving facilities issues autonomously. You can manage multiple priorities effectively, respond with urgency, and care deeply about the quality of your team’s work and its impact on others. You are process-oriented and have a continuous improvement mindset.
- The technical skills. You are proficient in Microsoft Office, including Teams and Excel. You can gather, analyze, and interpret operational data. You hold (or are willing to obtain) WHMIS, First Aid, and CPR certifications.
- The team management. You are an effective communicator who can lead a team through actively listening and open collaboration. You can schedule and supervise a diverse group, support performance growth, and create a workplace culture that is safe, accountable, and motivating.
