Job description:

Do you have a passion for developing people and teams? Do you have a proven track record of playing a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of projects from inception to completion? Skwlax Resource Management has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Estimator/Project Manager to join our team in Chase, British Columbia. The Project Estimator/Project Manager will work closely with the Operations Manager, as well as other management and team members, to ensure projects are successfully and safely completed.

Key Job Duties:

  • Analyze drawings and specifications.
  • Understand contractual terms and conditions.
  • Reviewing tenders and providing a bid summary to the Operation Team for bid/no bid reviews.
  • Develop project estimates and project timelines.
  • Attending pre-tender meetings and liaising with owners, engineers, and sub-contractors.
  • Have a basic understanding of civil construction & forestry activities.
  • Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers through direct contact, sales brochures, price lists, etc.
  • Manage and support tenders, budgets, project schedules, progress, and monthly reports.
  • Maintain a culture that promotes safety, quality, and environmental compliance for project teams, craft employees, subcontracts, and clients while following all policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Delegate project tasks based on junior staff members’ strengths, skill sets, and experience levels.
  • Manage the selection of subcontractors and administrative processes.
  • Manage internal and external project reporting requirements.
  • Manage the relationship with the client and all stakeholders.
  • Perform risk management to minimize project risks.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with third parties and vendors.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Engineering Degree, or graduate of an applicable technical diploma program, or an equivalent combination of education (i.e. PMP/PRINCE II) and related work experience.
  • Minimum two years experience in civil construction and or forestry.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Demonstrated experience reading and understanding construction documents, including contracts, drawings, specifications, subcontracts, etc.
  • Proven experience in preparing, tendering, evaluating, and implementing contract bids.
  • Proven understanding of estimating and project management theories, methodologies, and industry practices.
  • Strong awareness of project budget, scope, and primary tasks to maintain project schedules.
  • Familiarity with relevant construction codes, standards, and practices.
  • Familiarity with Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) policies and processes is considered an asset.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Comprehensive understanding of standard equipment and software – Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, cost control programs, Fieldcap, CRM, etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of key principles involved in bid preparation; including quantity takeoff procedures and systems, subtrade partner procurement, pricing, interdepartmental functions, general expense philosophy and bid-closing procedures.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills, demonstrated by previous professional success.
  • Proven leadership experience and ability to delegate work.
  • Organized and able to work independently on assigned projects. Excellent time management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize work.
  • Excellent communication skills: written and verbal skills, listening skills, organization abilities, proven attention to detail, and ability to develop good working relationships with inside and outside organizations.
  • Passion for developing people and teams. Ability to motivate people and assess and develop employee skills.
  • Strong understanding and commitment to First Nations culture, history, and community development.
  • Passionate, energetic, and enjoy a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.

Working Conditions:

  • This position will be a combination of office and project-based, depending on project locations and schedules.
