Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Supervisor Maintenance Operations Roads and direction of the Leadhand, operates construction and maintenance equipment in a safe and proficient manner.

Major Responsibilities
  • Operates construction and maintenance equipment within the classification.
  • Operates other equipment when required.
  • Inspects equipment daily and carries out minor servicing of equipment being operated.
  • Reports all equipment defects.
  • Fills out time cards and marks in proper account distribution.
  • Reports materials used to the Supervisor, Leadhand, or stores personnel.
  • Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications

General:

  • Must be proficient in the operation of equipment in this classification;
  • Must be capable of performing manual labouring duties;
  • Must be reliable and able to perform routine work with minimal supervision;
  • Must be able to understand, read, write, and speak English;
  • Must be tactful and courteous with the public;
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class “D” Ontario Drivers Licence, or equivalent with a ‘Z’ endorsement
  • Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation

Specific:

Within one year of accepting the position, must attain Corporate Driver’s Certification and proficiency in the operation of two or more of the following: sidewalk maintenance equipment complete with all attachments; dump trucks; truck plows with wings; truck-mounted sanding/salting/pre-wetting units with on-board information systems; steamers; and jet rodders.

Conditions of Employment
  • Must remain a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
  • May be required to provide a successful driver’s abstract (uncertified)
  • Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely
  • Must be willing to work irregular hours and in adverse weather conditions
  • Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
