Overview
Engineering Geologist / Geotechnical Engineers
Opportunities exist for experienced engineering geologists and / or geotechnical engineers to join a well established geotechnical consultancy providing expert engineering geology and geotechnical engineering services.
Based in Perth, Western Australia, the consultancy specialises in working on large scale mining projects from conception to operation and all stages in between, with projects ranging from ore processing facilities, non-processing infrastructure, corridors (rail, roads, conveyors, power transmission and pipelines) and port developments and expansions. The team is managed by leading practitioners with more than 30 years of experience.
Responsibilities
- Planning and project management of geotechnical studies from site selection, through detailed design, construction and operation.
- Conducting geotechnical site investigations including desktop studies, engineering geological mapping and logging, supervision of ground investigation programmes including geotechnical drilling, test pitting, bulldozer costeans, geophysical surveys, and site trials and insitu testing.
- Provide construction and operation support including application of the Observational Method, earthworks and ground stabilisation construction and performance (both over time and following "events" which have impacted them).
- Review and collate engineering geological and geotechnical data.
- Develop ground models for sites based on synthesis and interpretation of available geomorphological, geological and geotechnical data focussing on presentation using maps, cross sections and 3D models.
- Analyse / provide input to the analyses of the stability of slopes in cuttings (through rock and soil) and embankments, foundations including provide recommendations on appropriate foundation systems, pavements for roads, rail earthworks and airstrips and identification of sources of the various types of fill required for projects.
- Provide recommendations and advice for input to earthworks design and during construction on development and application of earthworks specifications, batter slopes of cuts and embankments, the suitability of materials from excavations and borrow areas for use as fill and methods of ground improvement.
- Carry out geotechnical analysis and design of foundations, slopes, piles, earthworks and other geo-structures including assisting with modifying designs based on as encountered ground conditions during construction.
- Conduct and / or provide input to risk analyses to identify critical geo-risks and uncertainties and investigation and / or management strategies to deal with them.
- Write technical reports including factual, interpretative and site observation reports.
- Review and / or develop laboratory testing programmes for rock and soil samples.
- Proposal / bid preparation and management including addressing scope, contract requirements, schedule development, costing, identifying and verifying appropriate sub-contractors, writing and reviewing.
Qualifications / Requirements
- A desire to be involved in a range of dynamic, large scale, fast track projects where application of engineering geology is contributing to their success.
- 5 + years of demonstrated experience.
- Solid understanding of AS1726 requirements.
- High level report writing with excellent communication skills.
