Job Type: Permanent, Full-time | Department: Peel Regional Police – Analytics Bureau | Location: Mississauga, Ontario

As Engineer – Data within our Analytics Bureau Department, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining and evolving new data architecture and databases, leveraging innovative techniques to automate and improve data across the organization for business and police analytics.

What will your typical day look like?
  • Develops a foundational data architecture for data flows by integrating data across the organization and developing new and innovative data structures.
  • Develops ways to increase the usability of data through changes in business process and/or data cleansing techniques.
  • Collaborates with the Data Governance committee to recommend ways to ensure Peel Regional police has and maintains accurate data.
  • Connects data sources through complex ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) process automation to facilitate business and police analytics.
  • Develops and maintains data pipelines for the ingestion, transformation, and distribution of data leveraging both on premise and cloud services.
  • Collaborates with data scientists and analysts to design and implement data models for analytical workloads.
  • Designs and implements scalable and secure data storage solutions in the cloud, ensuring optimal performance and accessibility.
  • Researches new data sets and develops ways to leverage the data fragments and incorporate them into new or existing data architectures.
  • Supports the translation of business requirements for data acquisition/ manipulation and provides detailed specifications to end users; deals with the database users on a daily basis to ensure that problems are dealt with promptly and that appropriate fixes are made to resolve any problems.
  • Explores new innovative techniques used in Data Science and Big Data.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

You are someone with:
  • A University Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Azure Data Engineer certification is preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in data science analyzing Big Data and developing ETL processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience using Azure ADF and/or Microsoft Fabric.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of related computer applications pertinent to the function.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of network software.
  • Knowledge of Niche and CAD databases preferred.
  • Knowledge of law enforcement preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in data warehousing, data model design and SQL Server.
  • Database administration.
  • Demonstrated oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical, research methodology and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
What we offer:

The salary range for this permanent, full-time position is $71,653.00.00 – $120,727.00 per annum. Peel Regional Police offers a highly competitive compensation package; applicants will be considered for the top end of the range ($98,996.00-$120,727.00) based on experience. The salary is complemented with a comprehensive benefit program, including employer-paid Health/Dental and Life Insurance; and the OMERS Pension Plan effective upon hire.
