The EHS Site Director reports to EHS NAM Director and work closely with the Project Director.

Purpose of the job:

  • The EHS Project Director has overall responsibility for managing Health & Environment to achieve EHS excellence at the site level. Working with NAMEHS Director, site Managing Team & EHS site Team toachieve sustainable EHS excellence by ensuring and providing a safe and healthy environment for our people and to our contractors.
  • Protect Alstom assets and reduce risks of business interruption resulting from fire and natural catastrophes.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Support Site Management to safely deliverthe project and safely reach milestones for every phase of the project
  • Manage site EHS Team (Monitor, assist, coach, assess, and develop)
  • Work in collaboration with client, constructor, project managers, contractors.
  • Develop, strategize and implement SMS to be adapted phase by phase
  • Ensure that Alstom EHS standards and tools & AZDP, are deployed at Project level.
  • Implement a strong EHS culture of 0 deviation
  • Coach and support project managers into EHS ownership
  • Develop EHS understanding and competencies. Deploy learning and development programs. (Training Matric)
  • Build an EHS communication plan
  • Ensure that Accidents/Incidents are first prevented and, when occurring, reported, recorded, investigated and analyzed.
  • Support local teams to establish REX reports in case of severe or potentially severe accidents. Ensure all potentially severe events are captured and investigated.Responsible for the quality of accidents/incidents analysis and REX reports onthe Site & communication of those REX reports.
  • Implement Modified work program
  • Ensure legal watch
  • Has full authority and must stop any operational activity resulting in an immediate high risk to People or the Environment.

Educational Requirements:

  • University Engineer or Business Degree
  • Recognized Health and Safety Qualification to Diploma or Degree level
  • Environmental Qualification to Diploma or Degree level


Experience:

  • Significant experience (10 years min) in EHS function
  • Experience in leading a Team
  • Experience in a EHS Manager role
  • Experience inEHS regulations applicable in Ontario
  • Experience inRailway and/or construction
  • Experience in multicultural environment & Matrix Organization

Competencies & Skills:

  • Good knowledge of ISO14001, OHSAS 18001, ISO45001
  • Deep knowledge of local legal requirements.
