Early Childhood Assistant – Student Job

Location: Carleton Place, ON K7C 1R6 – Work must be completed on site; no remote option.

Salary: $18.50 to $25.00 per hour (negotiable) / 10 to 44 hours per week. Employed as permanent part‑time; shifts include early morning, morning, day (11:00–13:00). Starts as soon as possible.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement child‑care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children
  • Maintain daycare equipment
  • Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs and taking children to local points of interest
  • Assist early childhood educators or supervisors in keeping records
  • Encourage children to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity
  • Engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs and preparing crafts
  • Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co‑workers and community service providers working with children
  • Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well‑being of children
  • Plan and organise activities for school‑age children in child‑care programs before and after regular school hours
Supervision
  • 1 to 2 people
Qualifications and Requirements

Education: No degree, certificate or diploma required.

Student status: Full‑time enrollment or part‑time enrollment.

Certifications: Food allergy and anaphylaxis training, HIGH FIVE training (principles of healthy child development), First Aid Certificate, CPR Certificate.

Safety & Security: Child Abuse Registry check, medical exam, immunisation records, bondable, vulnerable sector check.

Transportation: Own transportation.

Work conditions: Physically demanding; combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, kneeling.

Personal suitability: Punctuality, dependability, efficient interpersonal skills, excellent oral communication, flexibility, judgement, reliability, team player, creativity, honesty, ability to multitask.
