Hours/Shifts

20 Hours Bi-Weekly. Schedule to be determined by the supported individuals and operational needs. Schedules are subject to change.

This position supports individuals with developmental disabilities/dual diagnosis, aged 18 and older, to live independently. Responsibilities include community support, counselling, life skills facilitation, safety, crisis management, and administrative duties. Support may involve exposure to animals, secondhand smoke, etc. Flexibility in working hours is required. This is a bargaining unit position.

This role collaborates with the Community Housing Worker to implement goals.

HOW YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE

  • Support and Counselling – Assist individuals with daily activities, community involvement, health, social interactions, nutrition, financial management, and goal achievement.
  • Community Support/Outings – Facilitate community access and appointments, including transportation knowledge.
  • Conflict Management – Manage challenging behaviors using appropriate strategies and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Health and Safety – Maintain a safe environment and advocate for individuals.
  • Administrative Duties – Complete documentation, forms, notes, and scheduling.

WHO YOU ARE

Education/Experience

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in Social Services (e.g., BSW, BA, DSW, SSW).
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Valid First Aid and Safe Management certifications.
  • At least two years of recent experience in developmental services, including working with individuals with disabilities, community support, counselling, and crisis management.

Knowledge of the Social Inclusion Act and the Act for the Supports of Persons with Developmental Disabilities (2008). Understanding of community resources, individual support planning, and assessment skills are required. Effective crisis intervention, communication skills, and core competencies such as flexibility and change management are essential.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to speak French.
