Job Summary

As our Director of Finance you'll report directly to the CEO/COO and will be responsible for building a first class scalable finance function to enable the next phase of company growth. You will identify areas for process improvement, and will be responsible for ensuring our enterprise systems set-up is fully optimised and future proofed. The Director of Finance is a strategic and leadership role responsible for overseeing all financial activities within the organization. They provide financial guidance, analysis, and support to senior management, ensuring the company's financial health and stability.

Responsibilities
  • Financial Planning and Analysis
    • Develop and execute financial strategies and plans to support the company's goals and objectives.
    • Conduct financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting to provide accurate and timely insights for decision-making.
    • Monitor key financial indicators, identify trends, and recommend actions to optimize financial performance.
    • Assess and manage financial risks, develop mitigation strategies, and maintain internal controls.
  • Financial Reporting and Compliance
    • Prepare and present financial reports, statements, and analyses to senior management, board of directors, and external stakeholders.
    • Ensure compliance with accounting principles, regulations, and reporting requirements.
    • Coordinate and oversee external audits and tax filings, working closely with auditors and tax advisors.
    • Implement and maintain robust financial systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Strategic Financial Management
    • Collaborate with executive leadership to develop long-term financial strategies aligned with the organization's vision.
    • Provide financial insights and recommendations on business initiatives, investments, and potential opportunities.
    • Evaluate and support mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic partnerships from a financial perspective.
    • Conduct financial due diligence for potential investments and capital projects.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field. MBA or CPA preferred.
  • Proven experience (8+ years) in financial management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis.
  • Solid knowledge of Canadian GAAP and IFRS
  • Deep understanding of accounting principles, regulations, and financial reporting standards.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Commercial and entrepreneurial mindset, astute knowledge and practical experience of financial modelling to support investment decisions
  • Advanced proficiency in financial software, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management abilities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Nice to have
  • Minimum 8 years relevant experience, ideally at least 2-3 years in one of the Big 4
  • Tech savvy, prior experience in an online / e-commerce / fintech business
  • Start-up/scale-up funding experience is a strong asset
  • M&A experience
