Job description

We are partnered with a national leader in outsourced hospitality/support services for senior living and healthcare. They elevate resident and patient experience through white-glove dining, housekeeping, and support services, backed by rigorous process, safety, and data-driven program design. In addition to industry leadership (Most Admired Company, FORTUNE 500), they are a multi-time recipient of Great Place to Work and Most Admired Company awards.

The company is expanding its retirement-living offering in Western Canada. They're hiring a senior, hunter-oriented Director of Business Development (Vancouver-based, remote with travel in Western Canada) to build and own Alberta as a greenfield territory in year one, with a path to Senior Director oversight across Western Canada based on performance within 18 months.

Mandate & Responsibilities
  • Lead generation & prospecting: Market research to source new opportunities; narrow-and-deep outreach (campaigns, dimensional mail, experiential demos/events).
  • Pipeline & forecast: Build a healthy pipeline and accurately forecast wins across 6-24 month cycles; Year-1 target ≈ 1-2 sites.
  • Communication & proposal leadership: Write compelling proposals/RFP-alternatives, letters, and executive presentations; steer multi-threaded communication with client and internal teams.
  • Relationship management: Multi-level (including C-suite) entry strategies; build long-term account value and referrals across ownership groups.
  • Strategic planning: Develop win strategies for contact, relationship management, competitive positioning, and deal structure (including non-RFP, consultative/value selling).
  • Database/CRM & reporting: Keep pristine CRM data; complete reports on YTD results, strategic plans, and budgets.
  • Negotiations: Develop proposals, present, negotiate, and drive contract execution.
  • Internal project mgmt.: Lead/liaise with SMEs (Operations, Finance, HR, IT, Retail Dining) to craft bespoke solutions; quarterback the internal "sale."
  • Event management: Plan/support client events, conferences, and showcases with inside BDM + marketing.
The Ideal Candidate Brings
  • 5-10 years in an active hunter B2B sales role with uncapped commissions; consistent new-logo wins.
  • Sector fluency: Senior Living retirement or hotel/hospitality sales; understands white-glove/retail dining and service excellence.
  • Sales craft: Resilient, entrepreneurial, process-focused; elite discovery & questioning; executive presence; strong negotiation skills.
  • Business acumen: Occupancy/P&L levers, pricing/packaging; comfort orchestrating cross-functional teams.
  • Time/territory management: Thrives with autonomy; excellent at prioritization, time-blocking, and managing travel schedule; meets deadlines.
  • Location: BC Lower Mainland (remote; office available if desired).
  • Travel: 30%+ (closer to ~50% in Year-1 across Alberta) + Toronto 3-4×/yr for quarterly company meetings.
What They Offer
  • Compensation: $120K - $130K salary + $200K - $230K OTE in Year 1 (uncapped, margin-based).
  • Health & Safety: Mature safety programs and processes; strong enablement so client/associate safety stays paramount.
  • Benefits: Comprehensive health, vision, dental for eligible associates; RRSP match (50%); 3 - 4 weeks of PTO; car allowance ($400 bi-weekly) + gas card.
  • Well-being: Dedicated mental health & wellness initiative plus 24/7 EAP access and resources for mental, physical, spiritual, and financial wellbeing.
  • Diversity & inclusion: Inclusive culture with associate-led councils; Listen, Learn, and Act commitments; "Stronger Together" ethos.
  • Award-winning culture: Recognized on major workplace and industry lists (e.g., Great Place to Work, Best Workplaces in Retail & Hospitality, FORTUNE Global 500, FORTUNE World's Most Admired Companies).
