Job Description

AltaGas is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director, Corporate Finance to join our Finance team in Calgary. Reporting to the Vice President & Controller, you will oversee key finance functions and play a critical role in supporting strategic initiatives across the organization.

AltaGas is currently implementing a new ERP system, which will drive significant transformation in finance processes and technology. The Director, Corporate Finance will lead the Canadian Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Expense Management teams, ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements. They will also be responsible for updating and administering key policies, including the Delegation of Authority, and will collaborate with internal stakeholders such as External Reporting, Treasury, Tax, and the Corporate Secretary to drive process improvements and policy enhancements.

You will also provide ad hoc support on technical accounting matters and contribute to the leadership and development of the accounting team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

You Will

  • Lead and manage the Canadian Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Expense Management teams, ensuring operational efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Drive continuous improvement in financial operations, systems, and processes.
  • Lead or support key initiatives, including refreshing the Consolidated Delegation of Authority.
  • Collaborate with Treasury, Tax, and other departments on cross-functional projects and initiatives.
  • Support internal and external audit processes and ensure strong internal controls.
  • Provide technical accounting support on an ad hoc basis.
  • Mentor and develop team members to build a high-performing finance function.
  • Contribute to the preparation of presentation materials for AltaGas’ senior management and Board of Directors.

You Have

  • A bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • A CPA designation (or equivalent).
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in finance or accounting, including 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of financial operations, internal controls, cost allocations, and policy development.
  • Technical accounting experience in the Energy and Utilities sector.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a dynamic environment.
  • A commitment to high ethical standards and a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
