Job description
What is the opportunity?

As a Director in the AI Model Risk team, you will be responsible for a team of validation analysts providing validation and challenge of artificial intelligence (AI) models. You’ll help support RBC’s strategic goals of leveraging AI by reducing model risk associated with the use of AI models and ensure AI models are conceptually sound, fit-for-purpose and aligned with the bank’s risk appetite.

What will you do?
  • Define and execute the validation framework specific to AI models, aligned with Enterprise-wide model risk policies and standards
  • Oversee the team responsible for independent validation of AI models, including assessment of conceptual soundness of models, model development testing processes and appropriate model performance tracking framework
  • Manage stakeholder relationships to ensure timely completion of validation reviews
  • Keep abreast of industry trends and regulatory developments relating to AI applications on model risk management and governance.
What do you need to succeed?
  • An advanced university degree in a financial and/or quantitative discipline
  • Have more than 3-5 years of relevant experience working in the financial services industry
  • Possess strong knowledge on and/or broad experience in risk management approaches and industry best practices and regulatory requirements for model risk management.
  • Have a collaborative mindset and effective people management skills
  • Develop effective relationships and apply team‑building skills across company divisions and all management levels
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
Nice-to-have
  • Prior history in academic research, publications, open-source software projects and/or experience in a data science, ML engineer or software development role
  • Experience as a people manager
  • Experience developing or reviewing AI models in a regulated industry
  • Experience with IT infrastructure, data engineering or governance/policy
