The MongoDB Database Administrator will manage, maintain, and optimize MongoDB databases hosted on AWS infrastructure. This role combines traditional DBA responsibilities with cloud engineering skills to ensure high availability, security, and performance of database systems in a hybrid or fully cloud-based environment.

Location: This is a fully remote position located in Romania.

What you will be doing:
  • Database Administration:
  • Install, configure, and upgrade MongoDB instances on AWS (EC2, DocumentDB, or self-hosted).
  • Perform proactive performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization.
  • Manage database backups, restores, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Implement high availability solutions such as replica sets and sharding.
  • AWS Integration:
  • Deploy and manage MongoDB using AWS services like EC2 and DocumentDB.
  • Utilize AWS tools such as CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and IAM for monitoring and security.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code using AWS CDK with TypeScript for database provisioning and automation.
  • Security and Compliance:
  • Enforce database security policies, encryption, and access controls.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (GDPR, ISO 27001, SOC 2) and internal governance.
  • Operational Excellence:
  • Monitor system health and performance metrics.
  • Troubleshoot database and AWS-related issues promptly.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of configurations and operational procedures.
  • Collaboration:
  • Work closely with Cloud Operations and Application teams for migrations and integrations.
  • Participate in planning and execution of database modernization initiatives.
What you will bring:
  • Strong experience with MongoDB administration and optimization.
  • Proficiency in AWS services (EC2, DocumentDB, RDS).
  • Expertise in AWS CDK with TypeScript for Infrastructure as Code.
  • Familiarity with observability tools (New Relic, CloudWatch, Datadog) and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Understanding networking concepts (VPC, Transit Gateway).
  • At least 10 years as a DBA, including 3 years with AWS.
Nice-to-Have:
  • Experience with Kubernetes (EKS)
  • AWS Certified Data Engineer – Associate certified
