Overview

As the Data Governance Program Lead, you will be responsible for providing data expertise and oversight related to the delivery of data governance services and initiatives. You will work with management, and be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing processes that ensure effective control and use of data assets. The Lead is also responsible for the ongoing coordination and support of such data governance processes.

This role will also require you to consult and work with departments across all divisions to determine the implementation of appropriate data governance methodologies, and ensure that data governance policies and initiatives are adhered to within the data strategy goals. Within these engagements the Lead’s role will vary depending on the specific needs, from providing external consultation and review, to ongoing leadership and/or participation in the execution of the strategy.

Responsibilities
  • Gathers data management requirements, collaborate with stakeholders to develop data governance processes and procedures, and leads the implementation.
  • Leads in the development, review, and implementation of data governance initiatives to address data management needs or issues.
  • Formulates and implement comprehensive data standardization protocols across the organization to guarantee consistent and reliable data management.
  • Leads in the development and review of data governance documents and reports.
  • Implements information management standards and procedures (this includes establishing data taxonomies (e.g., data classification levels) and data retention best practices).
  • Collaborates with Cybersecurity, Privacy, and Legal teams to ensure accurate documentation of data classification is captured, maintained, and communicated to technical stewards.
  • Works with operational managers and corporate data and analytics functions to develop the enterprise data catalogue (data dictionaries, business glossaries).
  • Establishes and manages processes to ensure accurate, up-to-date data in the enterprise data catalogue.
  • Develops, implements and oversees the processes and technology to ensure that all metadata is managed and made accessible to the organization.
  • Liaises and coordinates with management to establish research needs and objectives.
  • Directs and provides recommended methodological approaches and research expertise into data governance issues and data strategic initiatives.
  • Co-ordinates and provides oversight leading to the completion of data governance best practices activities.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or a related discipline.

Experience:

  • Seven years of experience in implementing enterprise level data governance and data management requirements.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience with data governance and data quality tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to promote data governance, and to influence data practices across the organization effectively.
  • Strong collaboration skills to demonstrate diplomacy and negotiate across functions.
  • Experience in working within a Data Governance framework involving the use, updating, or creation of data-related policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Skilled in using data profiling tools and enforcing data standardization.
  • Experienced in tracking data lineage and documenting data sources.
  • Experienced project management skills to lead data stewardship efforts and ensure the successful attainment of goals.
  • Strong working knowledge of product distribution.
  • Strong customer service values and proficient in managing competing priorities to meet strict deadlines.
  • Works effectively in a team environment and provides leadership and influence into the .
  • Working knowledge of managing and augmenting business data glossaries and data dictionaries.
