What you’ll be doing

You will be joining the Enterprise Technology team, as a Data Developer you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining data solutions that support the organization’s business objectives. This role involves working with large datasets, building data pipelines, ensuring data quality, and collaborating with cross‑functional teams to deliver actionable insights. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in data engineering, programming, and database management. The role of a Data Developer is critical in enabling organizations to harness the power of data for informed decision‑making and strategic growth. By designing and maintaining robust data pipelines, ensuring data quality, and collaborating with cross‑functional teams, Data Developers play a pivotal role in driving business success.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1‑3 days per week on‑site, while other days will be remote.

How You’ll Succeed
  • Data Pipeline Development: Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines to process and transform data from various sources. Troubleshoot: Identify and resolve data‑related issues in a timely manner. Automation: Automate repetitive data tasks to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.
  • Database Management: Create, optimize, and maintain databases, ensuring data integrity, security, and performance.
  • Data Integration: Integrate data from multiple sources, ensuring consistency and accuracy across systems.
  • Data Quality Assurance: Monitor and validate data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and reliability.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with data analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Documentation: Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation for data processes, pipelines, and systems.
Who You Are
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, SQL, PySpark or Scala. Experience with ETL tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, Talend, Informatica). Strong knowledge of relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra). Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Kafka). Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and their data services. Knowledge of data modeling and schema design.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex datasets and derive meaningful insights. Strong problem‑solving and critical‑thinking abilities.
  • Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI). Familiarity with machine learning workflows and tools. Knowledge of data governance and compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Ability to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
  • Key Competencies: Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy. Strong organizational and time‑management skills. Ability to adapt to new technologies and methodologies.
