Job Description

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

What will I be doing?
  • Develops and implements data management strategies and data collection systems including the design and development of relational databases for information management and retrieval that optimize statistical efficiency, data quality and supports evidence based decision making.
  • Imports, cleans, transforms, validates and models data to improve data quality and ensure data is accurate and relevant and fosters understanding of operational, business and system issues/trends while advising on data issues which includes quality, availability and usability.
  • Identifies, analyses, and interprets trends or patterns in complex data sets using Data Definition Language or Data Manipulation Language commands for data gathering and analysis activities; produces ongoing and ad hoc reports and dashboards that identify issues, provide insight into results and outline recommendations for process improvements to resolve operational, business and system issues.
  • Presents data in dashboards, charts, graphs and/or tables by building, designing and maintaining online applications such as data input/data collection screens to capture and present meaningful information/data for reporting, analysis and presentation purposes for use by management, internal business units and stakeholders in identifying and implementing process improvements.
  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of internal and external data sources relevant to operational, business and systems data to design and build meaningful databases that centralizes data for internal stakeholders to access.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
  • Basic to intermediate experience using Power BI to create reports and dashboards, including data visualization and simple data models.
  • Exposure to Power Apps (Canvas apps) to support data collection and basic business processes.
  • Working knowledge of Power Query for data cleaning and transformation.
  • Understanding of relational data concepts and experience working with structured data from Excel, SharePoint, or SQL-based sources.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, PivotTables, and basic data analysis.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify patterns or trends, and support reporting requirements with attention to detail.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new tools and technologies, particularly within the Microsoft Power Platform.
  • Ability to follow requirements and collaborate with team members and stakeholders to support reporting and application needs.
  • Verbal and written communication skills to prepare reports, update and brief management; provide information and explanations of a technical nature to a range of internal stakeholders.
  • Exposure to Power Automate, SQL, or basic scripting is an asset.
