Construction Superintendent

Position Overview

Based in Edmonton, AB, the Construction Superintendent will take the lead on commercial construction projects, overseeing all field and site operations from groundbreaking through to completion. This role is accountable for safety, quality, schedule, and productivity, while creating a high‑performance environment for site teams and delivering an outstanding experience for clients and trade partners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead day‑to‑day field operations on commercial construction projects, managing all activities on site from mobilization to turnover.
  • Oversee implementation of production systems, design intent, budget, schedule, field performance, subtrade coordination, and site profitability, ensuring the site is safe, clean, organized, and efficient.
  • Direct and mentor Superintendents, Field Engineers, Foremen, and crews; identify training needs and support apprenticeship development.
  • Monitor budgets and forecasts from a field perspective, optimizing labour, equipment, and materials to maximize productivity and minimize waste.
  • Proactively remove roadblocks, resolve site issues, and ensure quality testing and inspections meet contract specifications and standards.
  • Develop and manage detailed short‑term and long‑range look‑ahead schedules for complex builds, coordinating closely with project management and trade partners.
  • Enforce company and legislative safety protocols, lead safety meetings, and drive a culture of zero harm on site.
  • Serve as the primary on‑site liaison for the client, consultants, and inspectors, maintaining clear communication and a solutions‑oriented approach.
Required Qualifications (Must‑Haves)
  • Minimum 5 years of commercial construction experience as a Superintendent with a general contractor.
  • Proven experience leading large site teams and delivering complex projects on time and on budget.
  • Experience supporting pre‑construction and proposals, including milestone planning and constructability input.
  • Journeyman trade certification or equivalent field experience.
  • Advanced understanding of LEAN construction principles and how to apply them in the field.
  • Technical diploma and/or Gold Seal certification.
  • CSTS 2020 certification and a strong track record of championing safety on site.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to required worksites in the Edmonton region and beyond as needed.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice‑to‑Haves)
  • Infection Control Certification for work in active healthcare or sensitive environments.
  • Leadership training and additional safety‑related certificates (e.g., supervisor training, advanced safety courses).
